This little local church has the most incredible reproduction of the Sistine chapel ceiling and is well worth a visit

St Botolph's is a lovely little secret hidden in the South Downs but worth seeking out during the daylight hours. Beware that the door locks automatically around 5pm or at dusk and once you leave it won't open again - don't leave your belongings in the church as you will have to wait until the next day to retrieve them! Photogenic and atmospheric inside the church has information relating to it's history, one or two things for sale such as lovely cards of the church and local area.

A beautiful Saxon church. My great grandparents lived in the tiny village of Botolphs in the 1860’s and my grandfather was christened here. The church is beautifully preserved and has original Saxon murals on the walls, a wonderful original font and Jacobean pulpit. The side windows were slanted so people from the leper colony in Bramber could stand outside to watch the vicars sermon. Parts of the outer walls have archways showing where the church was made bigger when the village grew. As the village shrunk the extensions were removed and bricked up. It’s a very peaceful place to visit and a must-see if your passing this way on the South Downs on Annington Road.

A beautiful church in a gorgeous village in West Sussex. My father is buried here and I can't wish for a more tranquil and special place to remember his life. A well-kept graveyard and well maintained church.
