The largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands on the Aegean's eastern edge, Rhodes is also its most popular. The well-preserved medieval city of Rhodes sits at the north of the island of the same name. High rise hotels line the northern and eastern coastlines. Small villages and resorts dot the island's other shores. Whether your interests are beaches, bars or ancient sites, Rhodes offers an abundance of all three. Authentic Greece can be found in the hilly interior of the 50-mile-long island.

Beautiful church with a real sense of peace inside. The area around it is lovely to wander round and there is a beach you can walk to.

Through the village of Ialysis up to an ancient Filerimos Monastery and 14th Century Church. The mosaic floor in the innermost chapel dates from 6th C AD. We also walked up the 865ft hill to see the huge cross. The route had bronze reliefs of the Stations of the Cross. Amazing views from the top. Peacocks everywhere! 6 Euros entrance, 3 Euros for over 65s.

I looked for the little church ,I had to ask a Greek about its location in a very narrow medieval street ,the entrance seemed to me so strange .I had read about the saint Fanourious and about the lost icon .Once inside I was amazed by the small dimensions of the church ,rebuilt in the 14 th century ,just on the site where the icon of the saint was discovered .It was so dark inside ,I tried to take a few photos ,two young Greeks were praying inside and they told me that the saint is protecting the people who lose their items .I was impressed by the medieval frescoes .The church is open daily ,9-12 ,16-19 ,free admission.

A beautiful monastery hidden among the hills. So tranquil and serene. A great place to come and just be alone for a few hours in the beautiful church or in the garden areas. Visitors should remember this is a place of worship, first and foremost. Priests and workers are there for their own spiritual journey, and not to be tour guides. The place also survives on donations and what they sell in their gift shop. We came and were greeted by the priest. Who gave us a very quick tour of the church and explained about the icons. After that he went along his merry way and we wondered the gardens and left after 2 hours. We loved it! It was so beautiful and relaxing. It really is a place you can sit and take a few hours of your day to realign yourself.
