St Carthage is a beautiful cathedral that has recently been given further attention, a new marble aisle and altar. Whether you are a Catholic, Christian or neither, the cathedral is a lovely place to visit. The organ player is wonderful and there is often a woman soloist with a magnificent voice - both high in a balcony on the left side of the apse.

An amazing place to capture some amazing views of Newcastle and the coastline. The hills to access the cathedral are steep so walkers be aware!

It is fascinating to visit this historical church built by convicts 1824 - 1828 and gain an appreciation of the culture of the times by taking a guided tour. This church is still a place of worship.
Dropped in to have a little look and spent about 45 mins. Did a tour with a friendly volunteer guide, Ron who took us up the bell tower. You climb up ship’s ladders to the top but have incredible views of the whole of Port Macquarie. Learn lots about the history of the place. Downstairs in the church are incredible family boxes put up to protect the civilians from the convicts. Also incredible stonework in this convict built church. Great slice of Port Macquarie’s history.

Right place at the right time! Stumbled across a special afternoon of history and hymn singing - including works from the Tiwi Islands- and it was wonderful. The pipe organ was magnificent and the very talented organist played both it, and a grand piano for the "singalong". I took my 85 year old father who still has a beautiful singing voice. For expediency we used a wheelchair and access was easy through a side door. The afternoon tea at interval gave us a chance to speak with others in the congregation and they were very friendly and welcoming. This lovely cathedral with beautiful stained glass windows, altar, and pipe organ is worth a visit if you are interested in religious buildings.
