The Strei Church is located on E79 / DN66 road, at a distance of 20 km from Hateg and 14 km from Simeria. Strei is one of the oldest churches in Romania, being built on the site of a Romanian "villa rustica", its annexes being still visible. Founded by the Ambrose novel, the Strei Church was built at the end of the 13th century, the first attestation of the church taking place in 1392.
The church is located in Strei village, at approximately 14 kilometers from Simeria on DN 66. The road sign towards the church is located at a curve, so you've got to be careful not to miss it. The church was built in the middle of the village cemetery. The church was built using stone, on top of a roman "villa rustica". The foundations of the roman villa are still visible. The church can be visited during the week (the contact number is posted on the entrance door).

The church is located near the E79/DN66 road. If the church door is closed the key is with Mr. Nicu next door. Or you can call him using the mobile number posted on the church door. Mr. Nicu will provide plenty of details about the church history and the paintings

A place full of peace. When we arrived, we have been served by a nun with fruits. The simple gesture impressed us a lot. From the garden of the Monastery you can sea the ruins of the Colț Castle. From the vilage you have to climb one hour if you want to visit the ruins too. We leave the place more happy.
