Things to do in Rosemead
This restaurant opened not too long ago. It could be part of the national chain of Sam Woo. The Chinese name is New Sam Woo. I ordered Chinese noodle (Chow Fun). It was a bit too spicy and below average. Almost any restaurant in Monterey Park or Alhambra can do it better. It was $7.50. The other curry beef I ordered ($10) was pretty good. The place is huge and clean (including the restroom). Price is average to above average. Service was below average. There is really nothing special about this place. With so many good restaurant in the area that are better and cheaper, I may not go back. I went there just to check it out and write this review.

We came here at a recommendation of a stranger - an elderly gentleman who ran an antique shop. We came here about one and a half an hour before their closing time. Then, we waited about 20 minutes which left us very little time to adventure into supposedly the finest Peking-style cuisines in this area. PARKING : Difficult but we managed.RECEPTION : Good but we did have to wait 20 minutes No problem here.AMBIENCE : Spartan.ACCOUSTICS : Moderately bad.SERVICE : Polite but Noisy (Bang, Bang). We assume that they were cleaning up as we were late coming. Otherwise, they were attentive, educational, helpful, efficient, and above all very courteous.FOOD : We came here specifically for Peking-style (Beijing-style) dishes. Our first dish consisted of two different sorts of dumplings, one of which was XLB. I know, I know, XLB is not of a Peking origin. XLB had a bit thicker skin but had abundant juice. We liked it. In fact, it was preferable to XLB's of noted and specialized joints around here. The other dumplings of different shape containg Chives and Ground Pork were perfectly steamed. Then, we had Stir-fried Chinese Broccoli which was perfectly cooked, al dente, with refined flavor. We had Gungbao Shrimp with a distinctive Peking flavor. I supposed that it was a Mandarinized Szechuan. But good - every one liked it. Then, here comes, Peking Duck which was plated in their kitchen. Well, we expected a drama of the chef in white and starched jacket carving a whole duck right from of our eyeballs. We missed the drams. Then, downhill - the pancake was ok, condiments were ok, the sauce was ok, There was no theatrics and the skin of Duck was a bit greasy.Overall, we had a good meal. But, we will be searching for the true, genuine, most wonderful Peking-style goodies.

This place is okay. Came here with my family and we were able to get a seat very quickly on a weekday. One good thing about this place is that the dim sum hours have been extended. Just like many other places on Valley Blvd. The dim sum here is just okay. Service was sub par. We got seated and it took about 10 minutes before they came to our table to ask us for what type of tea we wanted. The carts came sooner and we had already started eating a few dishes before the tea came. The place wasn't even that busy. The typical dim sum was mediocre but some things that weren't good was the "white tofu" with ginger sugar syrup. It still tasted very grainy and not very smooth at all. The chicken feet was fairly decent. The sesame fried balls with lotus seed/paste inside wasn't that good. The sesame seeds on the outside was quite bitter for some reason. The "ha gou" was okay. Shrimp was small and the skin was very sticky. The "tseu mai" was small and didn't have much ingredients in it. Some other places actually place real shrimp on top of it but this place does not. Overall, I would not recommend this place but it is in a very popular plaza and they do get tons of business. Service was sub par. It's been awhile since I've come here and the decor on the inside has been redone and it looks really nice. The chairs are more comfortable. One weird thing is that as you enter the dining area, the wall on the left does not have dragons on it. It has like two heart shapes or something like that. Weird.

We went here based on a review a while back from Jonathon Gold. We were delighted with what we found. The restaurant serves Shanxi style food. We had the best pork dumplings ever - and we have eaten a lot of pork dumplings. They were huge, flavorful and moist. The other winner was the hand-cut noodles, tender and tasty. The service was attentive, but we never felt rushed. This is a place for those who are adventurous about Chinese food. It is in a strip mall and not a fancy place. At lunch it was packed!

One of the best Dim Sum in the San Gabriel Valley area. Plenty people at meal time, so will need to make reservations (wait can be up to an hour).Wide range of Dim Sum dishes and service is reasonable (efficient HK style). Would recommend it if you are in this area of the city. Also, restaurant has won many awards, including being member of Chaine Dr Rotiseurs.

Went for a brunch following a wedding the night before. The restaurant is huge and we were probably one of the few non Asians.I love Dim Sum but 888 disappointed me. The pot stickers and dumplings were the only good thing. Most of the items are encased in large ball of dough with a little filling and mostly air. They keep bringing different items and after a while, they all seemed the same.

I do recommend this restaurant for their excellent fare and very reasonable prices. I am concerned the fact that there are only 13 tables. Our wait was over 1 hour 45 minutes at 6:30 PM on a Saturday evening. No reservations. Parking, too, is terrible:This restaurant is in a strip mall with very few parking places. If you can stand teh wait an dfighting for parking, by all means, try the food. The signature dish, Lobster, was excellent!

We had to arrive at 4:30 pm to get a table for an early dinner on Motherâs Day. No reservations accepted. Parking is very crowded in the lot but they have valet parking. There is also parking on the streets if lucky to find one. We had a party of six and ordered the Family Dinner for $54 which included 5 dishes - House Seafood Soup or Sweet and Sour Soup, Clams with Hot Spicy Sauce, Kung Pao Chicken, Sauted Pea Sprout, and a Steamed Whole Fish (Tilapia). Our main dish was the Newport Special Lobster (market price). A medium lobster was sufficient for our party of six. Everything was fresh and delicious! The lobster was all gone but we took the spicy lobster sauce and leftover rice home to make a fried rice dish tomorrow. This was a very good value for a lobster dinner! In a per person basis, each person cost approximately $50, including tip.
