I'm not a fan of Chinese cuisine and have eaten in lots of posh restaurants in Kunshan, but this cheap little restaurant serves excellent Beijing style food. My colleagues always refer to it as the "Cannon House" as there are two gold coloured cannons either side of the entrance. The dumplings are excellent and I particularly like the beef in black bean sauce and the asparagus with spicy pork mince.A very substantial meal with beer only costs around £7/person. It's about a 7-10 minute walk from the Swissotel.
The Chinese Paradise was recommended by my Concierge and I owed him a nice tip afterward. It is bit formal and perfect for a nice date or business meeting. The food is wonderful and can be prepared however you like (more spice or less as desired) and as long as you are ordering a full meal, they seem most willing to allow you to order multiple "half portions" so that you could try a range of different foods. The service is top flight, the manager's name is Cathy and she speaks great English. While she is completely professional, she seemed to have fun and enjoy the process of helping me learn what to order and how to enjoy it. No embarrassment, just friendly advice.A delightful meal and a memorable experience.Only criticism: the hotel (inside the Swissotel in Kunshan) should place the restaurant in a more prominent location or give better signage, because it deserves to serve more people and could do even more business. As it sits, (directly over the entrance) I would call it a bit of a "hidden gem".It is definitely worth the effort to find Chinese Paradise and enjoy a great meal there.
