All the good things in these reviews were there when our family of four went. None of the bad things - "mediocre", and the like - were visible to any of us. Three of us have eaten Chinese food all over the country for a couple decades, and two of us have traveled extensively in China., Hong Kong, Taiwan, and all major US cities with good Chinese restaurants.Yes, it is small, and yes, the parking like all of the area is not very good. But a very strong positive is that we were the only non-Asians in the place which was packed to the gills. We had 7 dishes, four drinks, service by a real Chinese who, while his English was not perfect, was smily, helpful, and knew what it was all about. The food was, simply put, delicious. The prawns in lobster sauce were the like best of the NYC Chinese and Hong Kong restaurants - exqusite. The house special fried rice was so much better than the Americanized brown stuff that we see in so many places. All the dishes had the tasty, fragrant spices we are accustomed to in good Chinese establishments. The food came out VERY quickly, all piping hot and we dived into it all. The whole tab for seven dishes and four drinks was $66 - a real bargain. Can't wait to go back here again when the craving hits. But don't think I will try on a weekend night. For sure I can see this would be a long wait. But on a nice quiet Thursday evening, it was superb.

With accomplished chefs proficient in all of the specialties that make Asian-Burmese cuisine sought after by food aficionados, Rangoon Ruby is fast striking a chord with diners looking for a fresh, modern approach to one of Asia's most popular cuisines. I
The food was amazing. I had the Pumpkin Pork Stew here. My friends had Rangoon Noodle and Tea Leaf Salad. All the dishes were yum! Service was a little slow, probably because it was crowded at the time.Thank you for loving our cuisine. The Pumpkin Pork Stew is one of our favorite house specialties too, we're glad you enjoyed it. We apologize for the slow service though and have noted that to go over with our team. Otherwise, thank you for sharing with us!

In my neighborhood and my first choice for fresh seafood to cook and a variety of vegetables at reasonable prices. Produce isn't always fully ripe, but it's always fresh and inexpensive. Fish and seafood are quite fresh and of large variety. They will clean and cook it for you too. Not always inexpensive on fish, but certainly far less than Whole Foods, for example. If there is an Asian cuisine item, they probably have it; not so well stocked on more common American food items, but they do have them. This is not where I would go for cheese, nor for a great selection of wines, but neither would any other Asian-specialized market in this area. Also have freshly cooked hot food available.

Food quality here tends to range from good to excellent! The Kung Pao chicken, Thousand layer pancake, half roasted duck and salt and pepper jumbo prawns are terrific! On the downside best to stick with pick-up because the servers have very limited English and service can sometimes border on typical rude behavior.

Probably a bit more authentic Asian than many places. A big menu that was biggest on hot pots. Our food was a bit on the expensive side for what it was, not that tasty, and nothing special. The restaurant was absolutely full, including the outdoor tables on the canal, so clearly it's very popular. I cannot see why. In an area that is chock full of a wide variety of Asian restaurants, including several in this same shopping center, this one simply doesn't stand out in my opinion.
They call themselves a "Gourmet Chinese" restaurant. The food was good, the prices right and only one block away from the Hilton Garden Inn in San Mateo.

We were a family of 4 who had dinner at Cooking Papa. We had several very nice dishes including Peking Duck. Some of the best Chinese food for a long time. The place was very crowded and popular. Very expedient serving. Recommended by Michelin since 2013. Absolutely worth visiting.

This place is always full and the old adage about observing who actually patronizes an ethnic restaurant is supposed to be a clue about its quality. So I always see a mostly Asian American clientele there. However, neither the food nor the prices have ever thrilled me. I suspect Chinese food, like pizza, is one of those cuisines for which your taste is founded on what you liked growing up. This isn't my particular style, and I feel that there are other Chinese restaurants all over the area that fit my taste profile better. That said, the service is OK and there is nothing wrong with the food, it's just average. It could well be that this fits a particular Chinese regional style and that I'm just not into that specific palate.

I have been coming here since the place opened. I have known the owner for over 21 years. The place serves very good food, at prices & speed that can not be matched. The two item lunch special can NOT BE BEAT. This is must try spot.
