Undoubtedly the best place in town and worth a trip to enjoy the terrace on a lovely evening. I would dine here again just for the experience.Pros: very good quality food, tasty; relaxed pace of service; lovely surroundings and marvelous to overlook the river; quiet and elegant; they allow dogs on the terrace; flexible (we were able to have wine pairings with some but not all of the "surprise" menu dishes to accomodate our need to drive home). Beautiful live piano music all evening.Cons:despite reserving long in advance for the terrace they tried to put us inside and we had to "stand firm" - that's not cool. They seem to favour hotel guests (which we were not). Service was OK but a bit quirky, lots of different people, no clear who was in charge. Timing of wine service relative to dishes was off. Austria allows smoking on patios (BOO!), but it seems unreasonable to also let employees (piano player) smoke in the guest space. Food is not "experimental" which was fine for us but may matter to some.Dear cantravnut,Thank you very much for your constructive review. We will work on a better Team work in the Service, that your next visit will get an unforgettable one!We wish you all the best,Yours,Family Thiery

Landhaus Bacher has been one of the first culinary addresses in the Wachau for many years. It is one of Austriaâs very best restaurants.
Landhaus Bacher restaurant is absolutely lovely especially in summer when you can enjoy their beautiful garden which is shaded by these old and big trees. We had a lovely dinner with our 4 year old son who was taken care of especially with his own Amuse bouche. The food was impeccable and the service was lovely and smooth. I would go back their anytime.

Had a great river cruise (separate review) and just wanted one night out, taking advantage of local culture. We found this place on TripAdvisor. Excellent find. It's about 1 mile from where the ships dock, so an easy walk. We walked along the river but found a better way coming back....more about that below. First thing we noticed about this place is that it's mostly for locals. We were the only non-Austrians in the place. Food would be described as hearty gourmet. We had ribeye with stewed apricots. Gravy was light and we were blown away at how good apricots went with the perfectly cooked meat (medium rare). The fresh leaf lettuce salad had a light vinaigrette dressing that was delicious. We also had chicken with creamy red pepper sauce and spaetzle. Sauce made the dish. Our chicken was just a bit overcooked but still excellent. The spaetzle in the sauce was the best part. Meal was excellent and worth the easy walk. On the way back, we went through the vineyards along Unterloiben to Schuttweg and down Oberloiben. The views of the vineyard were worth the trip. I've attached a photo from the front of the restaurant and along the walk home. Overall, great night out and a good option if you're looking for a night eating off the boat (by the way, food on the boat was also splendid...so we were glad we didn't waste a night out!). Strongly recommend this place.

Despite the fact that this restaurant is part of a hotel, the food here is excellent and the setting in the outdoor courtyard eating area is picture-perfect. The apricot sparkling wine is crisp and refreshing. the cucumber soup is cool, refreshing, and delicious and hit the spot on the hot day. The homemade dumplings with spinach in mushroom sauce is excellent. For dessert try the apricot sorbet with frizzante, which was amazing. I highly recommend this place for great food, great service, and a beautiful outdoor setting.

The Loibnerhof is the longstanding classic pillar of restaurants in the Wachau. For decades, it has enjoyed cult status for its outstanding regional cuisine.
Sunday lunch along the Danube, outdoors under an arbor! Lovely setting, wonderful service. Delicious zucchini soup, trout main course, the house special nut cake as dessert and the white wine, Gruner Veltlinger, from the famliyâs Vineyard was the best we have tasted.Definitely would return!

We dined here on our last night in the Wachau Valley. The atmosphere was upscale and warm. The menu was in German but the waiter was very patient with us and helped to navigate through our choices. We had the pork and the stuffed chicken and both were very good and the meals were nicely presented. They had a good selection of wines from the area. We ended the meal with a delicious variety dessert, allowing us to sample several things. It was a very enjoyable meal!

Prize-winning wines, homemade schnaps brandies, a small but exquisite restaurant, and a smattering of guest rooms to overnight in - plus desserts flowing from the local variety of apricot known as marille. The Prandtauerhof in Joching on the Danube is mor
I finally made it to Holzapfel with my cousin and her daughter yesterday. The experience was just perfect - a a fine dining experience based on Austrian standards. I had Blutwurst with the best homemade mustard that I've ever had. My cousin had an asparagus dish as it was asparagus season. Her daughter is a vegetarian. There weren't that many vegetarian dishes on the menu, but the chef happily whipped up some tasty spinach dumplings for her. There is a great selection of wines. I should add that our waitress could not have been more charming and helpful - also English-speaking. The eating area for the summer is in a charming outdoor courtyard that is just lovely. The restaurant itself is located in the stunning Wachau so the drive there is fabulous. I've now been living in Austria for the past ten years and Holzapfel was one of my best dining experiences. Go!

We used to visit this wonderful location regularly in summer but recently we have been disappointed- the portions are small and everything - potatoes, salad, rice, bread are all considered âextrasâ ....the location of course is unbeatable but as is often the case these places change for the worst and take advantage only of the location. I recommend it for the views but not if you are hungry.........shame.......

Jamek has been an institution in the Wachau for decades now. Both for the lusciously comfortable atmosphere and the quality of everything promised...and delivered.
The location is very convenient if you are traveling along the Danube and visiting Melk or any little town such as Dürnstein. The wines both sparkling or plain white are produced in the property and are quite enjoyable. We had lunch and the service was very good. Menu in English!!!Food was also very good, and our table outside (24ºC) was a good choice.

Located on the river we sat outside for a birthday party dinner. The service was excellent, the food superb, the Wachau wines simply amazing and the outdoor seating was heavenly. It was the season for all things apricots. The steaks were delicious. We ate and drank here very well. Earlier we had met the son in this local family who of course is now also making his own wines. The place to be.
