Things to do in Saarbrucken

We had read about this wonderful restaurant and decided to travel thru Saarbruecken just to eat here. It was well worth the visit. We were lucky to sit outside on the terrace under the huge trees, and we had a romantic delightful dinner. We tried the three specialities of the house and we enjoyed the flavors, plate presentation and creativity. Especially the fish soup was excellent! The most amusing part was a squirrel in the trees, also eating, and dropping his acorns on the tables below. Nothing but pure fun to have him as our eating company. His nuts never hit our plate, so he had good aim. After the sun went down he left ....and we continued with dessert. We hope to be back for the food and nice service.

The kitchen is not exceptionally good but it has many positive points: a regional card that changes regularly, seasonal recepes, good wine card, good service, correct prices. This is restaurant where you will always find something interesting and definately something to recommend. Summer is best time to be here with a table on the terrace.

It's a small restaurant with cosy atmosphere. The price of the food is really cheap compared to the average in town. And you might also be shocked by the quantity of food you get, if you dare to try the 'warrior' level. The choices are not many, but they are all pretty good. Overall, it really offers great values.

I´ve been to restaurant Zahm with colleagues. We chose our menus beforehand, so I don't know the other food they have on the menu. Like probably most other restaurants in Saarbrücken, the choices we were offered were a little on the meaty side. I requested something vegetarian and was not disappointed, I had a tasty salad with goat cheese and kind of a vegetable soufflé.Servings were plentiful. Our waitress was attentive and nice but got a little nervous past 11 pm.The toilet is quite small and needs some repairs. The wine selection is quite good.

We stayed and ate lunch here after long day/night traveling from USA. They do have a English Menu but that did not include daily specials. The staff appear to be the same hard working people from lunch @ am breakfast 2/17/17. For Lunch we both had daily special Lasagna. Which was quite good. We also each had a small glass of red wine to go with the dish. My husband finished his quickly as he was hungry and the waitress brought him another small dish with more. (He didn't really need more but that was very thoughtful). As they were good portions. The dining room was clean and it appeared the guest also dining for Lunch were all being promptly taken care of, as my observation at breakfast the next am. We were surprised at how quickly our food came out, at both visits. The morning breakfast buffet is set up and you help yourself. A male server asked if we would like any omelet or fried egg, scrambled egg @ breakfast. I requested omelet. It was quite good. Better than I was expecting. Cooked perfect. It was not huge, so not wasted. They had a good selection of yogurts, fresh fruits, breads, jams, three types of honey. Sausages. Soft boiled eggs, with noted you can request harder cooked eggs. Cheeses and meats, cereals, juices as well as waters. Neither of us felt we were missing anything. I enjoyed a hot pot of tea. There were a good selection of different types of tea. My husband is a coffee drinker and he enjoyed his coffee. Staff are very attentive and we both enjoyed both times we ate here. Much better than some other hotel restaurants, as we travel often we have tried a lot.

The food was OK-ish, nothing to complain but nothing to make me scream "wow". We were a little bit upset that we had to wait too much for our food and we ordered simple things. But, if there is anything that would make me go there again, that is the Apfelstrudel! Is really big, served with ice cream and it tastes great! :)

This was are first stop for German food here in Saarbrucken. We have been to many places in past travels in Germany. We have family who live in Mannheim. I was really looking forward to it. The homemade German beer we tried the light as well as the Dunkel. We each preferred the Dunkel. The service and waitresses were very good. They had menus In English. I was over whelmed with the portion sizes of our entrees. My husbands looked enormous. But once he cut thru the fat and bone on his pork dish there really wasn't much. The Beer broth was good as was the dumplings and cabbage Cole slaw. He gave me a bite. I have to say it was very chewy and I was expecting a very tender falling apart piece of pork. So I think we both were let down. My dish was Much better. A breaded pork tenderloin with cheese in the middle. With potatoes. I was so full I didn't even eat 1/2 of mine. So my Husband was happy to share mine. They gave us a small basket of bread but we didn't eat any. The atmosphere was nice. Everything looked very clean. We would come back but not order the pork -bone in. It was not very good, At least to us. Service was good and this was in walking distance to our hotel "Mercure Hotel". Homemade beer was very good. We did not use bathrooms on this visit.

The food is traditional saarland style. The Dibbelabbes is a must try although it is quite expensive considering the ingredients are just some basic stuff plus flour...Good spot for junk food if you love fried food...Ambience is nice and service is good. Overall perhaps better for a drink than a full on dinner. Better to go in summer where it is nicer to sit outside.

...serving local food and a pretty good beer. Despite service is very good, food was average to good, thus we likely would go next time and try another restaurant, since there are plenty available around same place.

Going to a 3* Michelin restaurant, expectations are high. This review relates our personal experiences this particular evening 21 July 2015, which fell dramatically short of our expectations. When we parked the car outside the nearby hotel where we were going to stay, temperature showed 34 degrees. We figured that a place like this would have air conditioning and dressed quite formally. However, this evening the dinner was served in the garden for all guests, no choice given. Itâs a beautiful garden, but much of the magic of the service setting is lost. Our amuse-bouches were served in gazing sun that was still on the table, despite the parasols. After a few hours, the temperature was quite pleasant but it was really too hot to enjoy fully during the first part. Throughout the dinner we had to fight against a wasp and a few flies, also interested in our food.We went for the full degustation menu at 195 euro. However, none of the 8 dishes were up to the standard of the promising amuses-bouches and there were no more extra dishes until the final sucreries, also quite impressive. The total amount of food was quite right in the end. Each dish was the piece of art you expect, but the tasting sensations were never beyond quite good. The meat in main course, duck breast, was a real disappointment even though it seemed cooked to perfection. I had high expectations for the first dessert, Rhabarbermüsli, but I actually didn't realize I had it until the second one came. I thought the white fluffy stuff with some berries â with just a hint of rhubarb and no crunchiness, and much too similar to the second one â was just a bonus. Red berries were a theme and many of the dishes had a quite pronounced vinegar taste. We took the wine menu, without knowing its price, and it actually turned out be less than expected at 105 euros, with good and interesting wines, but no wows here either. In total you drank enough, but I found it irritating that several times I was served less than my companion and we both less than at the neighbouring table. The relatively young personnel didnât do any real errors, but lacked in the soft speak and finesse that you expect from a restaurant of this kind. I guess the whole evening was a big challenge for them, having to run the extra steps into the garden, and it showed in the broken rhythm of our meal. Maybe we were just unlucky this evening, but what should be characteristic for a 3 star is a consistent quality. I agree with another reviewer: one star and half the price would be appropriate.
