My wife and I stayed at the Gasthaus over Christmas. The Restaurant was incredibly wonderful. Food was by far the best we have had in Germany. The staff is very pleasant and accommodating even during the peak rush of a full house. Reservations are strongly advised since it is very popular with the local community. Highest recommendation by far!!

Reminds me a bit of Fawlty towers. Dated and in need of some love and attention.Well situated and in a loverly town. We were the only guests so the restaurant was closed. But breakfast was nice and the owner pleasant. Rooms tidy and clean.

Lovely place, food was the nicest we had in Germany and great value for money. The owner was lovely, friendly and accommodating, he played with the babies in our group and helped translate the menu into English. Only thing I'm annoyed about was it was on our doorstep and we didn't go till the last night... We would have been there every night if we had known and would go back to Germany to eat there! Very family friendly too, outdoor and indoor play space with toys. Best night of the holiday!

We dined at this restaurant twice. On our first visit the food was good, but the waitress was indifferent and unhelpful. On our second visit, the food was excellent and the waiter was friendly, attentive and very helpful. We ordered the dishes he recommended, and each one was a winner. Overall a good place, but make sure you get the right waiter.

After enjoying delicious cheese cake last summer during my Germany trip (baked exclusively by a well-known Freiburg bakery for them) I stopped in recently for dinner, nt sure what to expect. I remembered the very unique ambiente in a remodeled SCHEUNE (old barn) with contemporary style, nice outdoor seating facing the foothills of Blackforest and the peace coming from this unique location. Well-known for conference business and insiders - but luckily not overrun by tourists. We ordered ROESTI w Smoked salmon - huge portion of smoked salmon, garnished w horseradish and caviar very reasonably priced - and a kids dinner for my 10 yr old - Spaetzle with Wiener Schnitzel. It all was fabulous, prompt and friendly service. Although I could not find this establishment listed I went through the extra length to request an addition to Tripadvisor. Praise where praise is deserved!

We ate here on our last evening in Germany last May. ( I am behind in my reviews from the trip.) We anticipated a great evening of traditional German fare. For starters we had the Asparagas soup-white asparagas was in season. It came out luke warm and far thinner and with less flavor than others we had elsewhere. My wife ordered traditional German schnitzel and it was fine. I made the mistake of ordering the liver. I asked that it not be overcooked. It came out horrible-overcooked to a point that it was hard and dry. It was not a good experience.

We went with our son and his girlfriend, who both live in Freiburg, and met another couple (German/American, as my husband and I are as well), so it was a really mixed, fun group. The proprietress is amazing--she cooks everything from scratch, and wow! can she cook!! This is now my favorite place near Freiburg. Lena, our son's girlfriend, says that locals often come here after hiking (and well-behaved dogs are welcome), but we were there well after dark, and it was really full of young, happy people. We had the homemade spätzle and some of us had the wonderful cheese fondue. The Flammkuchen (flatbreads) on the other tables looked amazing, as well. The beer is great, the service in this family-run restaurant is thoughtful and attentive. The prices are more than fair. Please go to this wonderful place!Thank you very much for all the compliments! We are happy that you enjoy your stay and we hope to see you again. Thank you very much! Greets T.Fehrle

This restaurant has a really good quality dishes with a reasonable price. Probably dessert menu could be better but overall is a good experience. Very recommended.

We were 6 adults and 2 children, the latter suffering from gluten intolerance. We all got excellent food - some of us tried the 4 course special Schlegelhof menu, others the Easter menu or dishes from the à la carte menu. Special attention was given to the children. The staff is very attentative and at the same time personal. You really feel at home. This is a place worth visiting many times.

We are visiting friends in Kirchzarten and had a wonderful dinner here. The servers heard us speaking and immediately switched to English. The service was perfect. I had the lamb with roasted potatoes and green beans. Everything was excellent. For dessert I had the creme brûlée with fresh fruit and raspberry sorbet. Delicious! I highly recommend the Sonne.
