Reviews on Central European food in Gamlitz, Styria, Austria. Gamlitz (Slovene: Gomilnica) is a municipality in the district of Leibnitz in Styria, Austria. In the first known document that mentions it (dated from 1145), the settlement is called Gomilnitz, a reference either to the Slavic gomilca which denotes a small hill, or to gom (a group or chain of hills); indeed Gamlitz is situated among and between rolling hills. The tradition of the local castle goes back to the year 1111.

An Austrian "Wirtshaus" (a kind of a typical regional restaurant), a high representative of Austrian tradition. Don't expect Nouvelle Cuisine but you will be surprised how well preserved the genuine Austrian kitchen will unveil its secrets to you, like fried chicken (not to be mixed up with Kentucky fried chicken), Wiener Schnitzel (extraordinary good quality), Schweinsbraten (cannot be translated)', Tafelspitz (one of the favourite dishes of our former Emperor Franz Josef I and his wife Sisi), cooked to perfection. Moreover, an original speciality of the region is the "Upset Chicken" (a literal translation) which is a roasted chicen on potatoes crispy and fresh from the oven. Chose the perfect white wine from this area, the famous Southern Styria: Tement, Brolli, Lackner Tinnacher,... whoever you choose, no mistake. My favourite one for the "Upset Chicken" (aufgesetzte Henne) is the WeiÃburgunder of Manfred Tement. The "Salzburger Nockerl" at this place don't need to fear comparisons to restaurants at the orgigin of this desert (Salzburg, for those who don't know), fluffy inside, with a descent crispy surface just to enjoy. Go there, enjoy. My preferred time is lunch time. Nice light, very good service, and a high risk to forget about the rest of the day....The owner, Niklas (well, you might need to get used to his special kind of humor) will try everything to make you feel good.

We enjoyed meals in this restaurant for two days. Menu is consisting of Austrian and Slovenian dishes. I must say that we particularly enjoyed the latter ones including grilled octopus and calamari as well as tiger shrimps with pasta. Multilingual waitresses ensured that all guests are very well and promptly served. Prices are moderate. Highly recommended.

Thaller (zur traube) is one of the nicest restaurants you will find in the south of Styria (Südsteiermark). The dishes are made with regional products and all prepared fresh. Professional service and an excellent wine list make this place a must go in the region. High class food with an excellent price/quality range. Be sure to book a table in advance, especially over the weekend since they are often fully booked.

Enjoy tasty moments and a marvellous panoramic view at the new "Gasthaus Tscheppe". A selected range of styrian cuisine dish
While meandering along the Südsteirische Wine-route, I stumbled across the place. It has a terrific outdoor terrace with a breathtaking over the vineyards nearby. The service was very pleasant and we enjoyed the food.(no Haube or Michelin, price quality perfect) The Sulztal doesn´t seem so touristy as other parts of the Wine-route. Border with Slovenia is very near.Nearby is a backroad called Südsteirische Panorama Route, an absolute must!

Amazing looking restaurant, something you would not expect in a small village in Slovenia. And the food is just as sophisticated. We let the owner chose the courses for us, and I enjoyed even the things I'm usually not a fan of. It's certainly worth the trip.

Ratscher Landhaus is a small hotel and restaurant on the South Styrian Wine Road surrounded with vineyards. The perfect location on the oldest and probably most famous wine route in the region invites you to visit numerous wineries and local restaurants.
Looking for a place for a warm dinner in the area? Have a look at this place. The food is simply excellent, the wine menu is impressive. There is also a good playground outside for the kids. Strong recommendation

We have been now two days in a row for lunch at the weinbank. Outstanding good food and comfortable service. We were welcomed although we came with our 3 months old baby - which in some restaurants seemed to be a problem. The food is definitely worth every cent you pay.We can recommend the place - we haven't tried the restaurant, only the Wirtshaus which is already delicious
