Reviews on Central European food in Erlangen, Bavaria, Germany. About 10 miles north of Nuremberg, Erlangen is the home of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Friedrich-Alexander-University), founded in 1742. Just over 100,000 people live here, about a third of whom are involved with the university; about another third work for the Siemens corporation. Bergkirchweih, Erlangen’s annual festival - akin to Munich’s Oktoberfest - opens in a different beer cellar every year and is attended by over a million people in its twelve-day run around Pentecost.

Was here during an exhibition period and this is my second year that I have several dinners in this place.Staff is very kind and polite, always ready to speak a little bit with guests.food is good and beer too.so the quality is a little bit over the avarage.the price?is perfect for the good quality you get!So I suggest this place to eat and drink and I will return for sure if I will be in that area again!

Everything you would expect from this sort of restaurant: quite a traditional menu but with a splash of creativity; old-fashioned décor but tastefully done; good service and nicely-prepared food. PLUS it's next to the Dechsendorfer Weiher (separated by the road). If you want to sit inside at the weekend during the winter you may want to reserve as it can get busy. Sit outside in the summer!

we had a very pleasant experience with Polster for a nice candle light dinner, excellent and very attentive service, excellent appetizers, nice wine selection, the waitor was perfect in the recommendations, main dishes made perfectly, excellent dessert and another perfect recommendation for a dessert wine at the end. Worthwhile at reasonable expense !

The Fischerei is a very traditional German restaurant, run by a family breeding fish in the ponds in the area. The restaurant is "nicer" but not fancy. While a reserved table inside does fulfill the usual requirements for a nice dinner in nice clothes, you are also welcome coming in your biking gear for lunch.A good number of tables are available outside, which is a comfortable terrace. Reservations are recommended as the Fischerei is known and usually pretty well visited. The food selection ranges from traditional German/Franconian food to the great local fish selection. Everything is fresh, plentiful and high quality. For foreigners it should be noted that the local fish specialties are a little "odd". The are is famous for breeding carp, which is usually not the most revered fish. But in this area it is a specialty and it does taste different than the possibly expected muddy bycatch. The most common ways of serving this carp is "baked" (deepfried in batter) and "blue" (cooked in a vegetable broth). Both variants come as a whole fish, including fins and head, which is common in Germany, but the Fischerei also offers filet versions of carp. For the not-so-adventurous people also the trout can be highly recommended. The prices are medium to low, depending on the food (steaks are more expensive than fish).

Went there with family a friends- not sure if it as there when I was at med school in ErlangenThe menu reads well and there were four to five dishes I would have liked to eat which is rare. Do not expect any fancy fine dining flashes and foams and jellies but solid German fare (was once described gutbuergerlich before this became a swearword) well executed and nicely presentedI choose a wild garlic soup 8/10; some asparagus with hollandaise an an schnitzel 9/10 sauces perfect (beurre blanc') ; my daughter had scallops with black rissotto 8/10 and pork fillet (said it was iberico not sure if iberico pork or iberico ham covering it 7/10) desserts where nice and I enjoyed a silvaner from a small wine makerWhat wasn t too like? It is popular (book if you go which I recommend you do) and in line with other places in Germany they save on service so it was overstretched too long wait for wine and bill went awol in-between (I don't blame them they were no enough and neither professional or well trained they did what they could)

Although this restaurant is not about to get a Michelin star, it is an excellent choice for a good, relaxed, mid-priced restaurant offering attractively presented, local food. In the warm weather, you can dine in a lovely garden. Service is excellent including wine recommendations. In short, it delivers what it promises and does not try to overreach itself. I would be happy to return.

Quite small and very full but I managed to get a seat at the bar overlooking the chefs working. They recommended the courses and a glass of wine (or 2) for me and I was not disappointed. Wonderful tastes, very simple but effective, and I watched them cook it from start to plate. Certainly worth a visit back when I am in Erlangen next. Very very much enjoyed.

Every meal has been delicious, satisfying, and a great value. The restaurant is popular with locals and validates how legit they are. Although reservations are needed most evenings, they have always accommodated me as a walk in customer.Service from Jenny has been outstanding ! Her sparkling personality and attentive nature makes me feel like family when dining there. Kitzmann Brauschanke is a must try when staying in Erlangen, you won't be disappointed.

Steinbach is a great brewery, with two kinds of beer seasonally available. It is delicious, and the hall is a fun place. Of all the beer in Erlangen, this is definitely my husband's favorite.
