The menu is standard Swiss country cooking. Nicely prepared and presented by friendly staff. The Sunday Lunch Menu could be translated as "Cream of Herb Soup?" .Roast Veal and Pork with fresh vegetables for 25 SFr. Desert extra.I had Damson Sorbet with Damson Schnapps on it. The It was a beautiful day and the views are fantastic. Picture book Switzerland. Cows with bells, fields of crops, etc. Lovely garden with comfortable seats. With wine and water but no coffee it came to about 50Fr a head I think.

We recently celebrated a family birthday at this restaurant following the recommendation of a friend. We weren't disappointed, the food was excellent, seasonal, imaginative and well cooked, the service was friendly and the atmosphere good. In fact the place was surprisingly full for a Wednesday evening and obviously popular with the locals who kept dropping in, mainly for drinks and coffee, though there were also a fair number of diners. Housed in a typical old Bernese farmhouse renovated to a high if a little austere standard, the restaurant offers outdoor seating (under the eponymous plane tree) on its terrace as well as a comfortable couple of rooms seating 30 and 40 people separated by a bar. The interior design might not be to everyone's taste and is again a little austere but the terrace is attractive (and separated from the road by a thick hedge), particularly at night with its candles and vases of flowers. Fleece blankets and soft cushions are also provided on chillier nights and there's a seating corner complete with multicoloured furs draped over the chairs. There's plenty of parking along the road too. Both lunch and dinner are available with lunch being a variable Carte du Jour (though you can also order from the set menu). Dinner is a more sumptuous and seasonal affair. Our menu positively oozed autumn and proved surprisingly inventive. Diners can opt for A la carte or one of three menus: CHF 65 for 1 entrée, main and dessert or cheese; CHF 77 for an extra entrée and CHF 89 for 2 entrées, main, cheese and dessert. Everything which we picked was fresh, original, well seasoned and cooked and several of the dishes were inventive too. The chestnut soup with boletus and celery was excellent. The flavours were beautifully balanced and everything was well presented. The wine was good too, as was the trademark aperitif of hibiscus flower with prosecco. My red deer filet was superb as was the lime crême brûlée. Our order was immediately followed by a tasty and original amuse bouche - nutty lentils, hazelnuts and ham topped with mozzarella mousse (how do they do it?!) and finally ended with homemade chocolates (again imaginative with pistachio crust and coconut milk filling) to accompany the coffee. Service was friendly, efficient and a particularly nice touch was the chef coming out and asking how everything had been. My only criticism was that towards the end the service seemed to slow down and I (but no-one else) found the roe deer slightly dry. This is a very good restaurant, with pleasant (and surprisingly young) owners, a nice ambience and excellent food. We will definitely be back, especially as we noticed that they were offering saddle of roe deer (two helpings, plus lashings of side dishes and a starting salad for CHF 69 per person with a two person minimum).

The restaurant is inside the Berchtold hotel, it's quite busy both at noon and in the evenings and has pretty good food. Try the B5 salad, the tastiest salad ever, although it may not be that light. Service is always correct if a bit rushed but as the place is full it's completely understandable. I've been eating here for years and have yet to have a bad experience or a bad meal. Pretty good outdoors seating if the weather is good.

Just half a mile from Burgdorf, Berne, right in the middle of the fields and the hills of the Emmental. Nice location, away from the street, i.e. quiet, large terrace, a modern banquet room and facilities. Creative kitchen, friendly people. We had a few family functions there over the past few years and the experience was always and consistently very good.

Burgdorf is only a dozen minutes away by train from Bern and for lovers of excellent food, the Emmenhof is a wonderful destination. The highly accomplished yet modest chef/owner, Werner Schürch, can cook with the best of them, as evident in the terrific menus available in the elegant gourmet restaurant. If you like to eat more modestly - both in price and preparation, the homey Gaststube is the perfect place to try local specialities cooked with great care and featuring impeccable ingredients. It was in the Gaststube where I had a wonderful lunch during my last visit of the Emmenhof. Led by the charming and warmly welcoming Margrit Schürch, the service in the Gaststube is efficient and highly professional. There is a good number of wines by the glass available, we started with a fine Italian sparkling wine while perusing the tempting list of main plates, mostly priced at an incredible 19.50 sFr! These plates might include a local version of trippa, an excellent Swiss variation on Tafelspitz, or a plate of fresh local fish - all marvelous. If you desire, a soup course is added for only 3 francs (our soups were a complex gazpacho and a vegetable soup made with spring herbs) - delightful. After finishing with desserts of fresh berries from the market and a fine eau-de-vie, the trip back to Bern felt even shorter than our trip to the Emmenhof. I highly recommend this restaurant to all visitors of Bern who love great food. The brief hop to Burgdorf truly vaut le voyage.

It looks like quality has gone down during the years. Pizzas were very basic variations of each other, without much topping. The pastas were not cooked al dente and the sauces were also very basic. Other dishes were good, probably because the schnitzel and risotto are less common dishes and thus had to be made taking more time.

After visiting the beautiful Old Town of Burgdorf, I had lunch here as this bistro-style restaurant is listed in the Gault Millau guide.Thumbs-up for the great service during the entire meal: the tenant was unobstrusive, motivated and really efficient. No a-la-carte lunch - but a choice between the "Tagesmenu" (i.e. Menu of the day) and the Businesslunch.I chose the first option - comprising of tomato soup as starter, and sliced veal strips with tagliatelle as main course. Both were really delicious. The bill is rather on the pricey side. But it is well worth it.

We stopped by this restaurant on a quiet afternoon. Only two other tables week occupied so the service was top-notch (very attentive and personal, both waiters came to ask of everything was allright, the chef also came to the table which speaks for itself). The lunch started with a greeting from the kitchen (salmon with an arrangement of lemony food), tasty and a wonderful surprise. Plus great for all senses! Our main courses were two of a kind. The cordon Bleu was to die for! Crispy but not oily, freshly made, absolutely perfect. The Rösti unfortunately was very, very salty. Had I not been that hungry, I would have said something (and I'm sure they would've reacted perfectly).Portions are fair for the price, the restaurant is definitely worth a visit.
