Reviews on Central American food in Copan Ruinas, Copan Department, Honduras. Abandoned in the 10th century, the stunning Mayan ruins at Copan deserve as much time as you can spend there, a full day or more. Travelers recommend that you hire a guide; you'll learn so much more about this World Heritage site and its history and people than you ever could on your own. After your adventure, sip a cup of strong Honduras coffee and people-watch in the main square or just enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery.
Things to do in Copan Ruinas
We visited here based on a recommendation from a taxi driver, who said "if you want local food, this is the place to visit" and he was correct. The restaurant is located quite a ways out of town, about a twenty minute taxi ride, ($10 return without a tip) It is past the Macaw bird park, close to the hot springs. It is a family restaurant, part of a small coffee plantation. We were lucky and had a guided tour with one of the family while they were cooking us a lunch. We had some wonderful and simple local food, including chicken soup, roast chicken, tortillas, beans, plantains and a corn beverage (non alcoholic), all at a great price. If you want to eat local, see some great scenery, have an interesting ride through the country then go there you will not be disappointed.

We ate baleadas drank coffee here twice.... because it was that good! The baleadas with chicken were the best we had in all of Honduras. Coffee was really good and as to be expected in Copan. Service wss friendly and they always answered in Spanish when we spoke in Spanish, but would switch to English when we counld not understand. That is very nice for people like us trying to learn Spanish but not quite there yet.

Part of the Hotel Marina Copan this restaurant offers some excellent local dishes in pleasant surroundings.
This restaurant is in the Hotel Marina Copan. We ate two of the local specialties, Pollo Gin & Pio (grilled chicken with ginger and hot pepper), and Pollo Copaneca (Chicken with a spicy herbed mole) - both excellent, served with very fresh vegetables, priced around $12 each. Wines apparently available only by the glass - flan for dessert was unexciting. Friendly and attentive service.

It's a local place with a fast-food feel, serving excellent baleadas with all the fixings, and nothing else. It's definitely worth visiting if you haven't yet tried this classic Honduran dish. Be aware that they don't serve beer, but you're welcome to bring your own. Order at the counter, and they'll bring the food to your table.

We ordered their carnitas plate to share for two people. It started with a warm bean dip, then some pickled vegetables, tortillas, cheese, rice, more beans, three kinds of meats, fried plantains and desert. Prettt good meat. The service was a little slow, but itâs Honduras.

We have been traveling to Honduras for thirty years and this is a place we never miss when we go to Copan. We often take groups, and it always works great. This restaurant is downtown--an easy walk from most hotels. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the food is great. We especially like an appetizer that has nachos with refried bean and cheese dip.

The restaurant is a nice establishment, good and cheap food, great coffee but service is terrible. Staff and owner act like theyâre doing one a favor to offer you service. Wouldnât come back again just because of their arrogant attitude especially the owner, older lady.

I ate twice here, both times interesting international and Honduran dishes. Also arranged with them for a driver to take me to Rio Dulce in Guatemala, stopping at Quirigua on the way.

Food was so good that I went twice during my stay. Always Good service and full of a mix of both locals and foreigners. Their grilled food platws are huge and while I'm not a fan of beans, I'd happily eat a whole plate of theirs. Amazing and not to be missed. Highly recommended

You Guys Have This Hotel Listed (it Is An Awesome Hotel), But They Also Have A Restaurant With Some Of The Best Food In Copan. It Should Be Listed For The Restaurant Too!
We made our gran entrance to Hacienda San Lucas by horse. Our sons, 10 and 7 years old were delighted to be greeted by two very friendly dogs. We headed directly to the dining area to have some coffee and homemade fruit juices. It was a real trear. The staff allowed us to see the centurty-old kitchen with its traditional stove and oven. The whole place is simply charming. The views of the valley are amazing. There's a yoga and meditation area with the most incredible view. What a wonderful place to visit and relax in a traditional, rural Honduras setting. We highly recommend it!
