My wife and I had a wonderful dinner here. Greeted like we were old friends even though this was our first time here. The open air restaurant was great with a nice breeze blowing through after a hot day. Had a nice cold Bavaria while figuring what to order. My wife ordered the Filet and I had the Ribeye. Within 15 minutes we had perfectly cooked steaks with baked potato and a light salad. They were cooked just below medium and had a great flavor. My ribeye was huge and could only get through just over half of it. My wife's Filet was a good size as well and some went home with us as well. The check for the two of us was just over $40.00 and considering what we got I feel it was a great deal.Want to make it back for the ribs before we leave.

Delicious traditional Costa Rican food, as well as Mexican dishes and Italian pastas.
This little restaurant is a place that if you were just driving past it, you may actually pass it without even realizing it is there. If you did, that would be a big mistake. What amazing food! My favorite thing, hands down, is the shrimp crepe with asparagus sauce. Light, delicate, with a flavor that you won't soon forget. I have heard tell that their dessert crepes are amazing too, but I have always been to full after my meal to try one....Next time.

Every time we visit this spot we are NOT dissapointed. The staff, usually a bubble and attentive tica (wish I could remember her name) is always on point. She is happy to help point out extra yummy batidos and meals. The owner always says hi which is appreciated and the food never disappoints. My husband and I are amazed that there is not more people there when we stop by. Definitely recommend stopping in for breakfast or a meal. It's right across the street from the Coope grocery store.

âPub Grubâ! Moderately priced. But I donât think the main attraction is the food, as they offer a number of pretty good craft type beers, at least according to my friend who is a bit of a beer aficianado. I Donât drink malt grain beverages myself. My friends and family all said they liked the food, and it was moderately priced. The decor is corner bar on an industrial scale, a cavernous room with well worn tables and hard chairs. Iâd say cornor bar/Working Stiffâs watering hole. Donât try the Chicarrones unless you are to the manor born or perhaps hail from Tejas. Just a stew-like bowl of mostly dried, over salty pork rinds. The house white wine is also âindustrial.â

One the best restaurants in Atenas. Only La Trocha compares.
During our week in Atenas, my husband and I had dinner at El Guanacaste 3 times! We enjoyed the small plates so that we could share multiple options. The ceviche de camaron was excellent, as were the chicharron, salchichon picante, and chifrijo! Drinks were reasonable priced and delicious!

Please write your review under Cafeteria Antanos. The new owner is a "real chef" with a considerable amount of experience. They have very good food and service. They prices are also very reasonable. My wife and I had a very nice dinner with a craft beer for less than $30. Highly recommend this new restaurant.

A very popular restaurant for locals and tourists alike. It's famous for it's view of the valley and Pacific in the background; it's most busiest during the breakfast time when the view is best. Serves large Tico or American breakfast.

Kay's Gringo Postres roughly translated means Kay's NorthAmerican Sweets. Kay and her husband, Tom, from South Dakota, started out as a tiny pastry and coffee shop and grew into the only place in Atenas and for miles around that serves real American soul
I visited Atenas with my girlfriend on our now third trip here and weâre told about a Polish Cafe/Restaurant near by. Being Polish I had to try it out. My girlfriend Allison and I popped in one afternoon and met Ania the owner who is originally from Poland, lived in Toronto and now has moved to Costa Rica with her husband and two kids about two years ago. She said they bought Kayâs and cleaned it up, changed the menu and itâs a brand new place now. Thereâs a great menu with tons of choices for breakfast and lunch. Lots of Gringo choices and also a traditional Polish menu page. They have home made iced tea (sweetened or unsweetened) which is fantastic and refreshing which we had. Our first trip there I tried the Hungarian pancake which is a beef stew wrapped in a potato pancake and comes with 2 sides. Allison has the Cabbage Rolls. Both amazing. We came back a second time with Allisons parents and two of their friends and had Cabbage Stew and the schnitzel which was fantastic and had an egg on top. Before leaving Atenas Allison and I came back a third time to say farewell to Ania and the great ladies who work in the kitchen with her and had pirogies and a Polish sausage. Everything we tried was so authentic and brought me back to my childhood. It tasted exactly like the food my mom used to make. Thereâs also a huge English book library that lines the inside walls of the restaurant if you want something to read. I canât say enough great things about this place. The food, service, quality, pricing..... everything was absolutely fantastic. Go and try it....

If you're looking for the best food, service and ambiance in all of Atenas your search is over. This is an easy drive only 3 minutes from town using Waze. You won't get lost - really. Frank welcomed us warmly in his lush tropical "yard" and when we asked him for his recommendation, he enthusiastically pointed us towards the sea bass and shrimp with his special La Trocha sauce. Dining at La Trocha is an experience. Frank happily worked his kitchen magic while we lazily sipped wine and enjoyed Costa Rican jazz music. The food is unequivocally the best we've had in Atenas. Portions are huge...if you like to leave with leftovers you won't be disappointed. But Frank...he's the real magic. No, he doesn't speak English and our Spanish is very limited. Yet we enjoyed his companionship for over five hours on our most recent visit. And yes, we learned a lot of Spanish that night, and when our phone batteries were nearly dead from translations he brought out chargers. In no time we were "family". A truly congenial, warm-hearted man and I'd be remiss not to say I can't wait come back. Our favorite night of our 2-week trip. Absolute gem.
