Living up to its billing as “The Natural State”, the state is a nature wonderland with three national forests, nearly 9,000 miles of pristine streams and rivers, awe-inspiring settings in the Ozark and Quachita mountains and sparkling lakes.
The menu of vacation experiences is an exciting one. For great golf, spas, horse racing and the Hot Springs National Park, Hot Springs is the place to go. Outdoor enthusiasts love the Ozark Mountains where activities like canoeing, rafting, kayaking, fishing, hiking and rock climbing are popular. The mountain village of Eureka Springs, with its streets lined with Victorian homes, is brimming with boutiques, antique shops and art galleries. Wine enthusiasts love the Arkansas Wine Country, encompassing the towns of Paris, Ozark and Altus, where German style wines are produced. From its ancient mountains to the Delta flatlands leveled by the Mississippi River, the state has a diverse topography with numerous scenic drives. Try the Pig Trail, Ozark Highlands and Sylamore scenic byways in the Ozark National Forest designated by the U.S. Forest Service. Golfers love the state because greens fees are extremely affordable for great courses. A few excellent public access courses are Sage Meadows in Jonesboro, Stonebridge Meadows in Fayetteville and the Mountain Ranch Course in Fairfield Bay.

This is a wonderful place to visit if you are at all interested in history and appreciate the aesthetics of all of the pretty white headstones neatly lined up, rows and rows and go on and on. It’s a really cool site to see and the additional information to read along the way brings some of its history to life.

Home to the burial sites of some of the state's most famous citizens.
Every year students from a local high school give narratives regarding the people who are buried in the cemetery. It is a great outing. Anytime is good to visit. The tombstones are interesting and many famous Arkansans are buried here.

While there’s so much controversy over these areas, it’s still part of American history. Good or bad. We should learn from the past to change the future. As we walked through the cemetery all I could think of was how devastating this era was for so many families. The mass graves were humbling. We visited on January 1st so the wreaths were still displayed. It was beautiful.

I am glad that this cemetery has respectfully maintained our American history. It is a slippery slope to remove Confederate statues and history. It is part of our history and important to remember. Not black or white but American History with all of its warts.

This is the third National Cemetery that I have visited. Every one of them brings tearful reflections for the brave soldiers who gave our nation the freedom we all enjoy! To see all the headstones reading “unknown soldier” is a somber reflection that somewhere a family will never know where their loved one lays at rest. Gratitude
