In the vicinity of a small town of Grosuplje, around half-way to castle Turjak, lies the underground karst cave Županova jama cave. Formed trough millennia of running underground water, the cave was discovered by a local mayor in 1926 and is thus called The Mayor's Cave. Today you are welcome to visit seven underground chambers, richly decorated by flowstone forms.
Visited the cave on 2nd January. Hidden gem in the middle of the forest, 1000 steps all around. Great guide, interesting information and stories (German movie Vinetoe and slovenian movie Kekec were also filmed in the cave). You can see a lot of bats (small and big), hanging really near you. Also some other cave animals. All in all, great cave, even greater guide! I recommend to visit (it takes about 1 and a half hours).

Amazing. We did the 6 hour tour together with our guide Borut. He was very nice and made us feel comfortable all the way through. He was very invested and tried his best explaining, even with his level of English. The tour included climbing rock terrain, rowing a rubber boat for several kms, moving the boat over terrain and climbing/going through some tight spaces. Expect to get a bit dirty over the course of your journey. We saw quite some creatures, including the famous human fish, beautiful cave formations and remains of cave workers/climbers from a long time ago. The equipment was good, no problems there. We never felt unsafe because of Borut his spirit and enthousiasm. Would recommend for everyone that is in for the description above. Even if you hesitate, do it. It is not tiresome if you are able to do a good hike. Many of the tight spaces are short, thus not that bad at all. Thanks Borut, from Mischa and Lisa.

The Divača Cave lies near The Divača-Lokev Road and is approximately one kilometer distant from Divača. It has been discovered in 1884 by the local Gregor Žiberna. Three years later, the cave has been arranged for tourist visits. A visit to the cave is very interesting as it, together with surrounding collapse valleys And shafts, constitutes a part of once active cave system formed by the Reka river, which sinks today in the famous Škocjan caves. Almost entire cave is richly decorated with calcite formations that have developed through its geological history. The cave shelters numerous species of cave animals and other forms of life. In the past, the cave the cave has been visited by many prominent personalities. Especially worth mentioning are Rudolf of Hapsburg, Crown prince of Austria, whose name the cave bore for some time, and the famous psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. The walkway in the cave is well-maintained and illuminated and thus suitable for visitors of all ages. It is approximately 500m long. The temperature in the cave is 8°c/47°f. Access to the cave: One just has to follow the sings by the Divača-Lokev road. The cave is also a suitable destination for those who come to Divača by a train. One has to walk from the railway station on the Risnik Education Trail that leads thorough karst wood and past large collapse valleys. This alternative is a wonderful opportunity for a half day trip.

Excellent. 140 years old basement for food storage over the years refurbished in wine cellar. You can try the perfect homemade wine and buy it at the end of the tour. I highly recommend it.

Postojna Cave is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world's largest karst monuments. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, the astonishing diversity of Karst features as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors. Check the timetable of visits by months.
Immense cave system - taking the little train 3km into the caves was great fun even for my grown up children. You visit in groups and after the train ride walk for a further 2km into the caves where the guide gives information about certain areas .Fantastic stalagmites and stalactites and immense fascinating caverns. Please be aware that some of the walking is up or down quite steep paths -( maybe a problem for those with compromised mobility or breathing difficulty) - wear sensible shoes. We booked online which saved queuing and took the bus from Ljubljana, where we were staying, which took about 1 hour.

Križna cave is a worldwide attraction known as the water karst cave. Its features are underground lakes with sinter’s barriers and an extremely interesting site with bones of bears, along with the naturally preserved environment for animals.
The cave impressed me! We chose a 2h tour that includes a boat ride along the first lake. The cave is really beautiful, I saw a lot, I learned a lot. Guides are friendly.

The Pivka Cave and the Black Cave are the final two caves along the subterranean Pivka River before the river finally disappears and resurfaces in the Planina Cave. The Pivka Cave entrance is located 5 km from the Postojna Cave. The 65-metre deep entrance can be reached by walking 317 steps. Electric illumination is provided along the tourist path. The path takes visitors along the Pivka River towards the Black Cave, after which they get back to the surface and return through a forest. The tour takes an hour and a half, no special equipment is needed.
