“Grotta del Trullo” is an enchant tourist karst cave in Apulia, opened on the 21th of June 1935. It is possible to access to Grotta del Trullo through a complex of splendid monumental Trulli(typical Apulia houses) The route winds along an easy path that allows you to admire hundreds of soft-colors beautiful alabaster concretions which ranging from pink to white. An exciting journey surrounded by nature in an underground world to be discovered, accompanied by professional guides who tell its millennial history The visit lasts half an hour and the ticket price is 5 €. Grotta del Trullo has a free parking lot, a rest area for campers and, a large fenced and equipped green park destined to families, children and sportsmen who want to spend some spare time.
We had a private tour of this beautiful cave and our guide spoke excellent English. You go down a dizzying metal spiral staircase under a purpose-built Trullo down to a lovely cave with stalagmites and stalactites. There are minerals of many colours and it is all so close to the surface, unlike our Cheddar caves - you can even see a tree root coming through in search of water.

Famous for their white marble, these caves in the Apua Mountains serve as studios of stone sculpting and bronze art, where famous artists and sculptors from all over the world come to work.
On the flight to Italy we watch a move about Michelangelo and got inspired to visit a marble quarry. I was surprised to find a Viatour outing that fit our plan perfectly. This seems to be very popular with European tourist and there were several jeeps on the tour with us. No one we had spoken to that had been to Tuscany had ever mentioned seeing this sight- well worth it- First it's in the north of Tuscan and a different terrain and landscape, and seeing how marble is quarried now and in the time of Michelangelo was really a unique opportunity. On the way, stop in the town of Pietrasanta which is an artist workshop area and a lovely town.

You can swim or climb the cliffs in the Green Grotto, which looks like an enormous liquid emerald.
Although the Blue Grotto gets all the attention, if you are cruising around the Island of Capri you'll likely see this grotto and it is really pretty to see - crystal clear waters and if you look close you can see jelly fish sometimes - if you do, don't jump in for a swim!

I visited these caves 12 years ago and were awestruck but could not share because no photos were allowed to be taken. We visited again in October 2019 and now you may take photos from the second hall onwards without flash. If you are in the area, do not miss it. You can buy tickets online but most tours on the hour are in Italian, Also you need to be at the meeting point half an hour before your tour commences because a shuttle bus takes you from the parking area to the entrance which is about 3 km back. English tours usually forty minutes later i.e. 11:40 but you, need to confirm at the ticket office. You have to go with a guided tour. About 1 km of walkways with some steps.

We booked the long tour in English and it was perfect. A must see in Puglia and if your legs are able to carry you this far the long tour is definitely worth the 3€ plus compared to the short tour. Our guide was Claudio and he was the best, guiding us with funny stories, a lovely smile and perfect English.

Pozzo della Cava is more than just a well... ...it's one of the highlights of a historical and archaeological tour of Orvieto...it's a place where the past and the present combine with respect for twenty-seven centuries of tradition...it's an invitation to discover Etruscans, Middle Ages and Renaissance, because Orvieto is not only the Cathedral...it's a fascinating underground itinerary located in the heart of Orvieto, through caves full of recently discovered archaeological finds...it's an unusual way of discovering the history the city known as Urbs Vetus and the customs of its people...it's an original opportunity to retake possession of a disinterred heritage
We had already done the Underground Orvieta tour but found this one very interesting as well. Visitors here are allowed to wander at their own pace; there are clear detailed descriptions all along the way. The well has obviously been well studied with seemingly accurate explanations of the workings of the Etruscan inhabitants. The depth of the excavation is surprising. One hour is probably adequate but there is also a well-stocked book and gift shop to explore.
