We did a little detour on our way to Hamburg from Berlin to visit this Castle. So well worth it! Amazing! I have seen most of the Bavarian castles and this is on the same level. Definitely well worth the trip to Schwerin. The castle is about a 10 minute walk from the train station. Very well maintained Castle and grounds. The photos we took were sensational.

The castle is a princely building of the 16th century constructed for the purpose of representation and as a residence of the Duke. Güstrow Castle offers its visitors gloriously decorated rooms and a permanent exhibition of a medieval collection, Renaissance art, hunting and pomp weapons, ancient and contemporary glass, GDR paintings, ancient pottery and contempary art. One of the exhibitions is dedicated to the short reign of Wallenstein in Güstrow.

We really enjoyed our visit to this hunting lodge. Parking is a bit complicated; you need to park in one of the official lots off site and then pay to ride the tram to the lodge. We enjoyed visiting the castle, but the climb to the top of the tower yielded magnificent views and was worth every step!. The grounds were lovely, they have a nice cafe and a great outdoor space to sit and relax.
