The weather was cool when we visited in middle of March and it was not too crowded. The climb up was not complicated - simply follow the signage and stone steps all the way up. The peak iof the castle is at over 700 metres. It offers a commanding views of Kyrenia/Girne area. We saw some visitors from group tours scrambled up the castle due to the limited time given for them to explore the sprawling castle grounds. We hired a taxi service from North Cyprus Brothers Taxi Services and could spend a good amount of time at the castle. We were picked up at our hotel in South Nicosia, went through the customs at the borders smoothly and had 6-7 hours to explore St Hilarion Castle, Kyrenia Harbour, the old harbour & Bellapais Abbey at a leisurely pace. Kyrenia, and especially St Hillarion Castle, is worth a day's visit as the views here are picturesque, and offered a different perspective of Cyprus.

Superb place to visit whilst in the area. There is quite a lot to see to do it justice so it is advised to allow at least a couple of hours. Give some thought to footwear as there are a lot of uneven, stony surfaces. It is not really signposted very well on the outside but there is a cafe within the castle where you can rest & buy refreshment (you might need it on a hot day). Unusually for a Cypriot tourist attraction there are quite a few useful bulletin boards, as you walk around, explaining the history of the castle. Fascinating.

My friends and I went on a slight hike up to the top of the castle. The views were amazing and extremely scenic. The bottom of the castle has a picnic area where we did a bbq. Definitely recommend this for a day out picnic/hike

This is another part of the site not to be missed and you can do just that as it's slightly off of the normal pathway but sits just a stones throw from the front entrance to the right. It still has it's castle squareness with many pillars now on the ground, but some still stand along with two arches. You are also able to walk all the way around it so gaining some lovely photos.

Bare relatively intact main castle, could be improved with some period furnishings. Only €2.50 entrance so worth a visit as good panoramic views from the roof. Toilets, free parking and cafe/shop on site.

Don't miss the castle during your visit to Limassol. Interesting and informative and easy to spend up to an hour browsing here - and taking photos on top - before going to the marina or exploring the old town and shops. It's surrounded by lots of cafes and taverns so you won't go hungry or thirsty!

When we went to visit Medieval castle weather was cloudy and a bit of rain, however castle itself was very interesting. Views from the roof are really fascinating!

You enter through a small wooden gate in the outer wall and nothing prepares you for the scale of the walls surrounding the courtyard that you are in. Well documented with boards in English as you go round and some good views from the top.

Great place to visit, with plenty of bars, restaurants, shops & day trips out on the boats etc. Trips range from deep sea fishing, glass bottom boat trips, day trip on wave dancer visiting coral bay, st George's island or the night cruise with food singers & fireworks display.
