Stayed overnight so had an evening meal and breakfast. Evening meals were both excellent, lobster chowder and seafood pasta. Lovely restaurant with very comfortable seats and sea views. Breakfast was more disappointing with a limited choice and poor service due to bus trips filling the restaurant and several items not being restocked quickly enough.

Went there with my brotherâs family who is from Dartmouth, I am from Ontario. We orders Fish and Chips, beef sandwiches and seafood chowder. The chowder is tasty but the best is the Fish. The batter is not hard and the fish is very fresh. In my opinion, it is better than the one I have in UK. The seafood combo is very good, it have deep fried clams, scallops, shrimps and fish with a side order for $25.The view is great too!
Managed to find this little gem of a cafe as we passed through Chester. Itâs fairly new to the town and shows great promise for being a friendly welcoming go to place. Good luck to the young team there.

Big Red's has a fairly limited menu of traditional pizza options, except perhaps the donair, which I believe is pretty common locally. I write this as someone from the west coast of California, where Blaze and 800 Degrees and other places specializing in Neopolitan Pizza or toppings like arugula or prosciutto abound. Big Red's is not that. The dough is semi-thick and bready, with a somewhat yeasty taste. It's satisfying in a hearty kind of way. The base sauce is unremarkable. The meat toppings were pretty good, with generous portions. Some of it, especially the donair, was a bit too burnt. The cheese(s) are also unremarkable. All in all, good but not anything more than that. Maybe there are some that are better than others--- I only tried a few.Service was friendly and efficient, both over the phone and in person.Big Red's stays open later than average for the area, so there are many reasons to get to know the menu and try a few pies.

Chester Basin is a quiet, picturesque community and the harbour side Seaside Shanty Restaurant was the perfect place to enjoy the atmosphere. The service was quick, the servers incredibly personable, and the food was excellent! Our server Jill was knowledgeable about the menu and, as per her request, over two nights we tried the salmon with blueberry compote, the fish cakes, and the haddock. The kitchen was very receptive to altering orders to accommodate customers with dietary issues. All of this was accompanied by the Garrison Tall Ships Ale and the Summer Sangria.I highly recommend this location.

Oh wow ! The haddock chowder was so full of fish there was hardly any room for the broth and the cubed spuds.Really, to have anything else to eat was a struggle but I manfully put away a fish supper as well.

The place is known for seafood, particularly fish and chips, haddock burgers, and so on. Both the portions and the prices are very reasonable. Most of the staff were lovely, but there was one waitress (a short, dark-haired lady) who seemed to be rather harried the day we were there. The diner was busy, but her attitude and demeanour conveyed the wrong message for a service based business. We were fortunate to have an excellent waitress, a very pleasant woman. The other waitress was spinning in circles and muttering under her breath about how busy she was. We will go back, but only if the diner doesnât appear to be too busy.

We are Closed for the Season and Opening on April 16th, 2020. Thank you for another great year. See you in the Spring!
The staff were terrific and the food was excellent. The scenery, although a cloudy foggy day was nice. Had the weather been better it would. Have been an excellent idea to dine outside but we canât control the weather,Very good fish chowder and bowl is definitely larger than a cup. A cup is an appetizer while a bowl is a meal.Thank you for dining with us on your anniversary & taking the time to leave a review! We are so glad that you enjoyed your meal and had great service. Hope you visit again us on a Sunny Deck Day! The Rope Loft

A return visit with friends was a great day!We were there for lunch and the place was busy on a Saturday in September. One member of the group had made reservations thankfully. There were many things to tempt your appetite. The soup of the day was lobster bisque which was soo tempting~ special of the day was a lobster croissant and a salad for $20, Very good prices.I ordered the chicken quesadillas and they were excellent. Two members of the party ordered the fish and chips and both declared it delicious and cooked perfectly. Another member in the group ordered the spinach salad which looked good and was a nice size. The last member in the party ordered the chicken Alfredo and said it was good also.No room for dessert although the menu looked tempting!Definitely would return
