I have been here many times and usually enjoy my visits. Not this time. They had live entertainment. Actually loud entertainment which made having a conversation with anyone at your table impossible. Frustrating and disappointing. Even sitting side by side did not improve the situation. I enjoy music as much as anyone but this was not enjoyable. May I suggest that the management tone down the sound level or you will be loosing customers.

Thursday wing-nights are great! I recommend the pulled-pork poutine (ask for green onions on top, it's so good). The barons are delicious as well. I went with my soccer team and we received team nachos, which of course the team loved. It is what it is, a small-town neighborhood pub where everybody knows your name...well, mostly.

I return here because the food is hot and the portions are generous. This late afternoon we four gals had Brandi as our server. Beautiful smile, great attitude, lots of energy. She made our experience lots of fun, especially since we were with my twin three year old grandkids.

Great food and service. You have to try there pizza, it is excellent and they do put lots of cheese on your pie. Conveniently located along Highway 7 in Carleton Place beside the Esso Gas Station. Lots of parking. It can accommodate large groups or there is a bar counter area if you prefer with televisions around the restaurant. My only recommendation would be to redecorate and modernize.

We happened to be driving through Carleton Place on a Sunday afternoon and we are yet to have lunch. Searched for a restaurant to have a quick bite to eat and be on our way again. Found this restaurant and I am glad I did. First I commend the entire family for their tireless work to have a restaurant running. The place is very simple but clean. I found the place mats are interesting conversation tool as it had the Chinese Zodiac printed on them. The food is exceptionally tasty and not very salty. The spring rolls were very flaky, and the vegetarian filling was very fresh. we also had spicy beef dish and steamed rice. They were very well prepared. The owner came to the table and she was genuinely interested in our feedback. If you like tasty Chinese / Thai food and at the same time support a hard working family business, you will not be disappointed if you eat there.

The patio is a great place to sit for a drink or dinner. We were there for dinner, and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent. Only "issue" was that our salad was too big and we couldn't finish our mains. I guess we'll have to share one on our next visit.

Irish Pub restaurant on the main street in Carleton Place Ontario. The best fish and chips in the area.
Love St. James. It's our go to in Carleton Place, ON. It can get busy and I find it a little small, especially on wing night!

Black Tartan Kitchen is a casual fine dining restaurant located on the idyllic Bridge Street of Carleton Place. We provide an intimate and homegrown dining experience to be enjoyed on any occasion. Our menu reflects the current season and showcases produc
My wife and I have been going to the Black Tartan for 2 years now, and there is great reason for that. Ian and his team continue to impress beyond words, with the atmosphere, service, and of course the food. You quickly begin to wonder how the food is so amazing, and then find out it's because Ian (owner/chef) has travelled the world working in various countries, in brasserie's, French butcher shops, and of course multiple multi-level Michelin Star restaurants! My wife and I usually end up going there a every few months, but hadn't been in a while. We then broke the long streak, by finding ourselves there 3 times in 7 days! If you want an outstanding dining experience, with food that will make you want to eat nothing else ever again, then you MUST pay Ian and his team a visit. It'll be the best dining decision you'll ever make.
