Wow! what a turnaround since the new guys took over.Freshly cooked breakfast that arrived at the table piping hot and of excellent quality. The cleanliness is refreshing and the friendly staff make it worth a visit. The owners produce different offerings regularly (home baked cakes etc).We have used the cafe several times and have not been disappointed. Placed a phone order one time for a staff breakfast meeting and it was ready for collection at the time requested, well packaged, everyone got what they wanted and still hot when we got back to the office (10 mins away). Will be spreading the word!!!

We are a small Syrian cafe restaurant. We offer home made vegan and vegetarian dishes. Take away is also available.
Out shopping in Colchester and stumbled on this gem. It's not big, or flashy. On the contrary a small menu of down to earth freshly cooked delicious and (I think) authentic Syrian food. The wrapped vineleaves were excellent as was the aubergine thing. We shared the large platter between two as I wanted to try everything. This is the most expensive on the menu at £12 - (for 2!), so well worth it. It didn't seem to have a licence for alcohol, but the Syrian Tea is well worth a try and the Turkish coffee looked and smelt awesome. Just one chap running it, so if it's packed (and it should be) you might have a wait. The Service is extremely polite and modest and he made us feel really welcome. it was a real pleasure to eat there at the basic but scrupulously clean wooden tables. Puddings like Baklava looked great. Prices are low (maybe for students), I hope it expands and I look forward to visiting again. For what it does and what it charges it is difficult to fault.I looked it up here on TA afrterwards and wasn't surprised to see the straight 5 star rating.

This is a breath of fresh air when compared to the same old rubbish that the high street chains serve up with their giant buckets of average tasteless coffee. The owner Lee is passionate about what he produces and the quality comes through in his food and drinks. I had a wonderful lasagna which was a recipe from Leeâs Great Grandmother, which she used to make for the family many moons ago. Passed down to Lee it certainly has stood the test of time and along with Paniniâs and great coffee. My daily pilgrimage was something that I enjoyed whilst staying in Colchester. One things for sure I shall return when Iâm next up in the area and I hope that the good people of Colchester realise what a Gem they have on their doorstep.

Independent Cafe Bistro in the heart of Colchester. Serving Speciality coffee and Breakfasts through to Lunch and Evening Supper Clubs. Fully Licenced, 100 seat restaurant including 35m2 outside Courtyard. Vegan and Gluten Free options available.
Was recommended to try this establishment by member of staff at the Castle Museum. He was not wrong. A friendly welcome and comprehensive menu greeted us. Falafel, hummus and salad for me, quiche, salad and chunky chips for her. This was followed by a huge slice of courgette and avocado cake. Delicious!!! We sneaked some caramel shortbread home for later. Pricing very good. It was only on the way home we realised we had a vegetarian lunch. Just goes to show you don't need to eat meat or fish for a great meal.

My 65th birthday and husband surprised me with high tea. Attention to detail yellow rose on the table the biggest happy birthday balloon tied to the seat. The atmosphere was stepping back in time to the parlour in the 1940s accompanied by forties music. The quality of food was outstanding and service was second to none and very personal. A huge thumbs up and worth going out of your way to visit. Great choice of freshly made cakes etc. Considering everything is prepared to order the wait was not long. Thank you Steven Vaughan for the bunch of yellow roses at the end of our tea you made my dayOverall 20 out of ten â¤ï¸

Visited this little cafe on a beautiful sunny morning so I drank my coffee at one of the tables outside. Cappuccino was £2.40 and was lovely. Tables were clean, chairs comfy and atmosphere friendly. Particularly liked the jar of sugar cubes on the table and the rose was a beautiful touch.Be aware that you need to spend at least £10 if you want to use a card to pay (not an issue for me).Toilet was large enough for a wheelchair if needed.Plenty of signs so it was easy to find and only a minute or so away from the river.Noticed bowls of water for dogs and a high-chair for little ones, so they seem to have thought of everything.Thank you for your lovely review. I just need to make one correction, our minimum spend on card is £5 not £10. thanks again though and I hope to see you soon x
