Things to do in Silves
Café da Praça is a joyful esplanade at the west corner of Silves marketplace. Jolly music, draught beer, a fine selection of wines, natural juices and a rich selection of portuguese tapas and light meals such as salads, toasties, hamburgers and dishes.
What a beautiful find! Lovely tapas, and such a change to the normal, every day menu in the area.Great staff and so clean and fresh looking. Wishing them all the best, they certainly deserve it !!!Hi Denise,Thanks for your kind words and for rating us on Tripadvisor. Weâre very glad to know that you enjoyed the place and tapas. Hope to see you again!
Just before stepping up to the gate of Silves Castle, after parking our rental car in one of the narrow streets, we encountered "Estabelecimentos D. Sancho", at the Castle Square. It was just what the doctor ordered for coffee and cake, before starting our visit to Silves Castle. This establishment is a curious combination of handicraft shop and café. It is easily dismissed as a handicraft shop, but the outdoor seating area lets the cat out of the bag: this is also a café. "Estabelecimentos D. Sancho" offers a good sit down at the Castle Square, good coffee and terrific cake. Service of the staff is Portuguese style, modest and friendly. To be recommended.

This place is abit hit and miss the pizza's are great but the other dishes are not so good, well at least in our experience. My husband and my mum's husband had pizza's which looked and tasted great, however my dish and my mums were poor and quite inedible. I had the calamari which was overcooked and stodgy and quite frankly awful , you could probably buy better in Iceland's. My mum had a croissant which was so dry she could only eat the filling. If you pop in here my advice would be grab a pizza and you can't go wrong

Great little place on the river front of Silves. Offers a little something different with a quirky relaxed ambience. Pleasant and friendly staff. Lovely toasties with home made bread. Reasonably priced. Be sure to drop in for lunch or drinks.

Snack Bar Lendas e Mitos is located in a pedestrianized historic street close to the river in Silves. As the tourists visiting Silves mostly go automatically uphill to the Castle and the Cathedral, lower Silves is more quiet. We had a nice sit-down with coffee; the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere. Service is good, informal and quick. The menu consists of simple food, mostly sandwiches, burgers and omelets. I was rather attracted to Lendas e Mitos, but unfortunately plans to have dinner here later in the day didn't pan out.

Having been involved in the hospitality industry all of my working life, I know the importance of a warm welcome and good service. My Portuguese is limited, even after 6 months of lessons, but that doesn't matter when visiting Pastelaria Requinte e Tentações, in Algoz. My partner and I visit this funky cafe at least 2 or 3 times a week for coffee, beer, and delicious sweet treats. We are always greeted with a smile,a warm handshake, and a genuine welcome. All of the staff are polite and friendly and remain patient and helpful when we try out our Portuguese.A great place to stop by for a drink, a bite to eat and take advantage of high speed wifi. The place is always bustling with Portuguese and also popular with other Europeans. There's a lovely walled garden out back, the perfect place for a jug of sangria and a little afternoon sun.Frankly I would be lost without this place, it's a pleasure to visit, time and time again.

There is the potential here to provide visitors with a nice place to rest the legs during a visit to the Castle, but sadly this is a big let down.Expensive snacks, sloppy service by seemingly disinterested staff - these are not the ingredients to merit a recommendation. Must do better!

A great cafe just next to the cathedral in Silves. Very popular with English tourist for a great welcome and good value food and drink
After climbing the road leading to the cathedral and the castle, a small break at the café da Sé will be more than welcome: warm and cold beverages, fresh orange juice, toasts, sandwiches.Very peaceful place where you could spend hours without seeing the time goes by

Welcome to Café Inglês, Silves - Algarve Probably the most charismatic place throughout the Algarve and some even say in all Portugal ... Situated in the heart of historic Silves, between the castle and IbnAl-Mutamid-Amar and a gorgeous Gothic cathedral,
Having visited the castle, museum and cathedral this was close by and had good TA reviews. Beware there are steps to reach the cafe but some going up from the cathedral do at least have a hand rail. The menu was simple straightforward fare and it was nicely cooked. We only wanted a light bite so I settled for one of the half pizzas offered and we shared these with ham, chips and two soft drinks. A total of â¬18.75 which was reasonable and it was all tasty and enjoyed on the shady terrace. Inside looks quaint and interesting too. Service polite and efficient and swift. Entirely happy to go again and to recommend.
