Traditional Tea Room
We called in for coffee on arriving in Arundel and were made to feel so welcome that we decided to go back later in the afternoon for the full afternoon tea experience. We had salmon and cream cheese sandwiches as well as egg mayo followed by very large scones (plain for me and fruit for my husband) all washed down with a plentiful pot of tea. This was £9.50 for each and if we had had room we could have had a slice of one of the delicious looking cakes available for an extra £1.50 each. They also sell a few cards and craft items and were doing a roaring trade of their ice-creams which had some interesting flavours. The lady in charge was really lovely and told us a little about the festival which was taking place and what else we should see apart from the castle.

After looking at the Christmas decorations nice and early we stopped off for a tea and a cake. Fresh scones baked on the premises delicious with cream and jam. What needs to be done is the labelling of the cakes as my friend is a strict vegetarian,we could no see any cakes marked vegetarian and you have to find someone and at lunch time it can get very busy.As a large garden centre this should be an easy solution a small green V sign on the cakes.Thank you for your review. I have spoken to our Catering Department with regard to your comments about Vegetarian logos on our Cakes and they have confirmed that this is something that they are in the process of looking into. They were however pleased to read your comments about our scones and they hope that you will visit us again soon.

Welcome and thank you for visiting the Motte & Bailey Cafe Trip Advisor page. Motte & Bailey Cafe is a traditional Cafe nestled in the heart of beautiful, historic Arundel. We open at 8.30am every day (except Sunday when we open at 9am) to make and serve
A lunchtime rush promised much yet delivered very little: a brief half an hour was spent in the cafe yet despondency amongst staff left customers feeling like an inconvenience. Requests for condiments were met with barely concealed irritation. The meals were adequate at best but there was disparity between the price of the food and what was delivered. Having ordered a dairy-free drink due to a lactose intolerance, a regular dairy drink was delivered. On querying the origins of the milk, staff bizarrely asked whether the lactose-intolerant customer would like to finish the drink. A further request for separate bills was met with clenched teeth and a barely concealed sigh. This constant neediness simply added a further dreary layer of tedium to the apparently already bored staffâs troublesome shift from hell. Apologies for inconveniencing you all.

My husband and I called in for afternoon tea while visiting East Preston. We were made very welcome and our order was taken immediately. My Earl Grey and coffee cake arrived very quickly and were delicious. My husband enjoyed his cream tea - and heâs a very tough customer to please, so quite an achievement there! The portions were generous and the lady serving us was very pleasant. If we are in the area again I would love to return.Thankyou for your lovely comments and we look forward to seeing you again soon! Went into administration end of August. Council now revoked lease so itâs permanently closed in current state but hopefully will be taken on by someone with a bit more financial sense in the future.

Had breakfast here two mornings on the trot while staying in the town. Much better prices than hotels very close by and in my opinion you couldnât get a better breakfast. Small English breakfast that didnât seem too small to me. Friendly staff in a nice atmosphere located in the middle of town. I would definitely recommend eating here.

I havenât visited this cafe before but had passed many times! Always looks busy but small, however party of 5 ventured in and was told more seating out the back! Very light and airy conservatory and garden! Staff very accommodating and service was quick! Breakfast of many varieties were had - everyone was happy. Lovely food, friendly service will visit again! Everything about us is local, all of our food and supplies are from West Sussex, even our beer is brewed just for us locally. We offer an extensive breakfast choice, including vegetarian and gluten free and vegan options. We serve breakfasts from 9am- 11a
My 'monkfish scampi' consisted of 5 bitesize chunks of breaded fish which was overcooked, dry and rubbery as well as being almost completely tasteless with some chips and a few bits of limp leafy green vegetable. When I complained I received a half hearted apology and was still charged full price for a meal I didn't eat.Awful food, awful customer service.

Been going since it opened a year ago. Tasty food for breakfast or lunch. Nice cakes. Friendly and personal service by owners and staff. Could do with blinds or canopy to keep out the sun.
