A perfect find for travelers and locals looking for somewhere to stop for something to eat and drink on their journeys to and from the west country! With friendly staff, outside sheltered smoking area and child friendly, it really is the perfect find! Loc
We have eaten lunch there several times now and have never been disappointed. Very friendly, efficient service and can particularly recommend Chicken and Ham Chowder and my personal favourite, Smoked Haddock Chowder. The only downside, my husband had chips, which were very disappointing. We did not stop to complain as we were in a hurry, but would think twice before having them again. Everything else could not be faulted.

Had the absolute misfortune to witness the owner telling a very heavily pregnant lady to leave the restaurant, after they had ordered their meal, as her young child played up getting in the high chair! Yes the little girl was crying but the flustered mum was trying to control the outburst and also doing her best to try to encourage her to behave at a meal time. This poor young mother was left crying outside, shame on you, we will never visit again. What a pity neither you or your elderly clientele can remember being-young and needing support and empathy

I have never been to Moretonhampstead before, and my sisters and I fetched up here having driven across Dartmoor from Wotter where we had been staying at the very comfortable Moorland Hotel there. The drive had been stunning early in the morning, as the rising sun rose to illuminate the glorious countryside in every direction you looked.Descending off these lovely moors, we entered the ancient town, granted its market charter by King John in 1207, over 800 years ago, parking up in New Street where we found this friendly cafe. Although we intended to have a short comfort break and coffee and bun, we were drawn into the adjacent Information Centre, which can be conveniently accessed from the cafe itself. After, the obligatory tea, coffee and scrummy cake we were encouraged to have a quick stroll around this blisteringly interesting town before continuing our journey to our luncheon appointment further east at the Cridford Inn, Thursam, nr. Exeter, with a longing backwards glance. Ah....

Chagford is a very relaxed village with plenty of options for excellent food. The Birdcage is no exception. Great selection of food, and happy to cater for Vegan/Vegetarians. Although a little cozy inside, enough room to have a relaxing lunch. Service was very friendly and reasonably priced.

A selection of modern British and authentic continental and Mediterranean, all homemade and locally produced wherever possible, alongside a mouth-watering selection of freshly made cakes and pastries, not to mention the famous Devonshire Cream Tea! To dri
Lovely small café/restaurant, with some appealing art and a very pleasant welcome. Food is freshly cooked, good coffee, and the absolutely delicious cakes and pastries are baked by the ownerâs husband. Itâs sometimes hard to get in, because it is much loved by Devon locals. So if you plan to detour for breakfast/lunch/cream tea (weâd happily stay for all three) do call to book.

Breakfasts, light lunches, all day hot snacks and traditional cream teas served on vintage china in a delightful ancient building in a bustling Dartmoor village.
We were passing through Moretonhampstead and needed a light lunch. We went to the Gateway Tea Room. My wife chose pea mint and dill soup with cheese scone. I chose scrambled egg with smoked salmon. Both were delicious. we would certainly return. Many thanks for your review - we're pleased you dropped in, and delighted that you enjoyed your visit.
