Kissamos (Greek: Κίσσαμος) is a town and municipality, multiple (former) bishopric and Latin titular see in the west of the island of Crete, Greece. It is part of the Chania regional unit and of the former Kissamos Province which covers the northwest corner of the island. The city of Kissamos is also known as Kastelli Kissamou and often known simply as Kastelli after the Venetian castle that was there. It is now a port and fishing harbour, with a regular ferry from the Peloponnese via Kythira. A town museum is located in the old Venetian governor's palace and there have been important archaeological finds in the town, including fine mosaics, dating from the Roman city of Kisamos (Κίσαμος, Latinized as Cisamus). The head town of the municipality (Δήμος Κισσάμου) is Kastelli-Kissamos itself.

The place is beautifully decorated with a vintage touch, and the people are very friendly,polite and willing to assist everyone.It is ideal for breakfast & coffee,snacks,ice cream and delicious cretan meze with beer or wine or raki!Most of the dishes are cretan recipies (some with a twist, as we were told by the owner) and they are home cooked- we loved the baked stuffed potatoes with apaki ,the zuccini fried balls and we fell in love with the greek ice cream dodoni!The first time we visited Palai Pote it was about 10 o'clock in the morning for breakfast and it was the perfect picture of the local society, with locals having their coffee and lively conversations and the market of kissamos full of life.Later in the day the atmosphere gets more relaxing and in the evening it is absolutely perfect to enjoy your drink in the outside space ,which is decorated with flowers, because the busy street gets closed and becomes a huge pedestrian street!We are definitely going to visit again on our next vacation in September!

As we were staying in a secluded village 2 km from it, we stopped every day at H Xara for a Greek frappe and freshly squeezed orange juice. Staff was friendly, service fast and efficient. Drinks OK and really cheap. The place is no-frills and we never stayed long enough to order any food, but I'd recommend it for the service and smile.

After eating a lot of times in traditional taverns we wished to eat something different than fish, wine leaves, greek salad and so on.. Fortunately we found that Place and ate really good Pizza and drank good cocktails. The service was absolutely kind and they gave us for free delicious warm waffels with chocolate sauce and cockie crumbles!! And the location at the small Port is nice too!! If you want to have good cocktails and snacks or If you want something different than traditional taverns visit that nice place!!

Good for salad and misitra lovers and eventualy meat is good to , the best salad I had in my lifetime , what a tasts. Everything is there or around produced and served well.Its very nice for children to , playground , garden , animals etc .Hikers can make real nature trips on trails of 1,5 and 2,5 km in the big park.The surrounding is a mountain/valleyside with great view, so go there in daylight ;-)Interesting information about own produce now and in the past , products from them and from district are available.So one of the starters is the salad (there are also other starters) in a way you don,t need anything more 1 portion is good for 3-4 persons , the tasts of the vegatables together with misitra and roasted/grilled bread is delicious.This is realy something else than the mass production in the "civilisited" world !Now I am very happy ;-)) to have been there !

Stopped off at Aqua for breakfast whilst passing through Kissamos. This is a nice, comfortable cafe-bar on the seafront, set amongst numerous, similar establishments. Despite few people being there, service was incredibly slow. My omelette, once it did arrive was ok, but my complained that hers was only luke warm at best. Not the best.

We discovered this place in Kissamos and we totally loved it. It is sort of cafe/delicatessen place and it is absolutely fantastic. Great quality of coffee and a large selection of sandwiches to accompany. It is also cheap and the owners are very friendly. Strongly recommended!!

A very plaisant place to stay and have some drink with cool music. Even the food is well done, short variety of food but good. (salads, burgers/hamburgers, crepe). Good place for breakfast too. The waiters are nice and efficient.

A place where you can enjoy a nice cold coffee, a snack or some Cretan food, right before you reach Elafonisi beach. The owner is very hospitable, meaning that if you come for dinner or lunch you might end up drinking unexpected raki shots. Expect to be treated like a Greek (if you are not) so not hidden charges and no discrimination in any aspect.

Quiet restaurant at night with the best fresh fish of Crete. The family that owns the restaurant are friendly and helpful.The son during our dinner plays buzuki and his dad sang traditional songs was really romantic. The grilled fish was fresh and delicious. Relaxing sound of the waves due to it’s next to the sea.Thanks for everything we will come back again.
