Take your shoes off as you step up onto the tatami mat floor. Really interesting traditional Japanese architecture and was surprised at the delta blues music that was playing in the background. Free wifi was really handy, as there is practically no wifi in all of Wakayama. The the owners ability to speak English was great, and he seems like an interesting guy. Lots of books on the shelves and a generally nice atmosphere. Great place for a cheap lunch, a chat and a coffee. I don't tend to drink Japanese coffee, but this was actually pretty good.

This cafe is actually called Cafe & Rest Bagdad (not Baghdad). It's cosy with lovely views over the river below. It's a popular pit stop for car enthusiasts who enjoy the winding roads. The owner built the cafe, is the chef, waiter, and also sells his leather goods in the cafe. The menu is small but nice. Our group of 4 got both of the pasta dishes and the curry. The chocolate cake is a perfect way to end the meal: dense and fudgy!
