My dad and I had lunch here after looking for ancestors in the churchyard at St Bartholomew's church. This is a village shop, deli and cafe and was very busy with both locals and a group of cyclists. The menu is mainly soup and sandwiches and uses local produce. We both had a Lancashire cheese and pickle sandwich served with crisps and a small dressed salad containing peaches and raspberries. We received a warm welcome, the service was good and the food was delicious. You can also buy lots of local produce here. Loved the stack of local farm eggs for sale. There was a nice sense of community here and a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely return if in the area.

Tea Room
Despite being hidden away in the shop at Cowan Bridge, the owners offer a delicious range of snacks & homemade cakes. There is ample parking behind the shop but new visitors may have driven past before they realise it is there.Quaint setting with typical teashop crockery.

We met our family for lunch here one Sunday. There were 4 adults and two youngsters, the staff were extremely cheerful, accommodating and efficient. Their children's portions were exactly the right size and very nicely presented. Our food was hot, well cooked and again very well presented. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We will certainly come here again when meeting the family half way between them and us. Do call in it is well worth the visit.

Normally the food is excellent but yesterday it was only average. The scampi , chips and peas looked as if it had been warmed up, with a tiny dish of tartare sauce. The toasted teacake came with only 2 butters (I get 4 at Duo). Salads were plentiful and fresh and paninis good. Do wish they would invest in a paper menu. having to stand at the counter and read a menu on a high mounted blackboard is not a good experience, especially for oldies who don't have very good eyesight.Clean and spacious, welcome box of toys for the little ones. Dogs allowed

Lovely tea room, delicious and fresh food, efficient friendly service and reasonably priced. Went with our two teenage daughters and mother in law for a light lunch during a brief visit to the quaint little town of Kirky Lonsdale before returning home to Salisbury. This was perfect as we wanted something quick but nice too!

Super little cafe with wonderful scones, cakes and coffee - our only regret is that we didnât opt for one of the amazing looking breakfasts! Gluten free options were mega tasty and the great staff were so dog friendly that after explaining our little one was allergic to dog biscuits he was then offered bacon instead! Highly recommended and weâll be back to try the breakfast!

We visited The Three Hares while the monthly artisan market was on so the place was bustling. This didnât daunt the couple running it who juggled selling to people who popped in for bread and buns with customers at tables. The coffee and cinnamon bun (they looked home-cooked) were excellent and, IMPORTANTLY, the background music was some low-key jazz (perfect).

My Wife and I were travelling from Newcastle to home on Friday 23rd August, 2019. We called in Main Street, Sedburgh, but the cafe we had planned to visit was closed for a week (presumably on holiday). However we searched Main Street and found Smatts Duo Cafe Bar & Bistro. It wasn't ideal as the menu was not to our taste. Somewhat reluctantly we went inside as we were both hungry. First impressions were not good. The tables and chairs were heavy and difficult to move. Also we selected a table (only one empty) near the front entrance door and was very draughty when customers entered or left. Also we noticed three dogs in the cafe which we didn't feel too comfortable with. Don't misunderstand us - we like dogs - but not in a crowded cafe. The menu was quite restrictive but decided to order Jacket Potato with cheese. The food was poorly presented with plates too small and more salad than needed. Sadly we did not enjoy it. I do not like to give bad reviews (most people seem to like this cafe) but on this occasion was not one of our favourite eateries.

This is not a 5 Star Restaurant, but rather a small cafe in a remote village. The food was great and very obviously home cooked and fresh. The service was also very good. It's a great place to get a feel of the local culture. It was full of hikers that had been out for the morning and were getting a late lunch.
