Family went there early on a Sunday am. We all ordered different breakfasts and we were all dissatisfied - bacon strips were poor quality and shredded hash browns were too thickly sliced- egg quality also lousy. Give this cafe a big pass as u will surely be paying too much & will be very disappointed. Certainly has gone down hill
After a morning walk around downtown Comox while we were on holiday, we looked for a local place with air conditioning for a light lunch and, by luck, found the Bayside Café in Courtenay. Easily missed at the end of a nondescript retail strip on the main road heading south, the Bayside was a good choice. Not fancy or flashy and basically just a coffee shop, it is spacious and comfortably air-conditioned with a little loft and local art for sale. We perched on stools at the bistro counter by the front window where some striking pieces of artisan glasswork were on display. Sandwiches were generously filled, on good bread, and reasonably priced. The baking was tempting, the coffee was freshly brewed, and water was complimentary. It suited us to a T.

Not a local and was looking a lunch cafe that serves homemade soups (my favorite). Googled lunch places and this popped up. It was just before noon and we were worried the place would be full but it wasn't. Everything on the menu looked fabulous! Got my delicious homemade "mushroom" soup of the day and a lovely buffalo chicken wrap. Fresh ingredients and delicious!!!!!! Priced right too!! This will be our go to place everytime we are up island! Owner was very helpful as she asked us if we had been there before as soon as we walked in door. So then she knew what to inform us about the cafe....drink selections, menu board, order when ready. Can't wait to go back!!!

Blue Spruce Ice Cream is a made from scratch ice cream shop located in downtown Courtenay that prides itself on using local, seasonal, flavourful ingredients. Our chef made creations are unique and inspired, and satisfying for every palette.
I tried out Blue Spruce a few days ago, mainly out of curiosity. This is not your average ice cream joint with heavy, sweet mostly ice milk products. This is a craft ice cream parlour, so do not be shocked at the prices. Ingredients are of the highest quality and local as possible. If you are not sure what to get, sampling is encouraged. Flavours at this time are somewhat limited, so I bought the signature Spruce Tip and the Lavender. At $12.00 a pint, this is a luxury treat. The spruce flavour is very subtle, and I was worried about a turpentine taste. I found it interesting, OK. I preferred the lavender which did not taste at all soapy, which means they are using the correct type of lavender. The texture is very rich, somewhat heavy; you won't need to eat a lot to satisfy your craving. The shop is located at the corner of Cliffe and 5th Street, at the old bridge. Parking is behind the plaza, by the hardware store. Tables and seating are available, indoors as well as outside. It is best reached on foot, while shopping elsewhere in town. This is a welcome addition to the Valley's culinary experiences. Best of luck to these entrepreneurs.

Visited a couple of times. Great smoothies discovered on trip 1, great salad on trip 2. My daughter had the vegan cheescake which she later decide only on eating the pink parts, so I ate the rest of that as well. Overall very good. Produce is high quality and fresh, a great alternative to the staples of burgers and fried foods most other places.

Went for lunch here, mainly on the strength of TripAdvisor's overall ratings. Perhaps I should have looked more closely and seen the higher ratings are for breakfast, rather than the rest of the day.In any event, the sandwich was fresh and tasty, and the salad ok

When you enter the Yellow Deli, you might find yourself reliving some ancient memories of an era long gone. Built in the early 1920s, this house has welcomed many home through its doors and has remained much the same over the years. Inside, all of the dec
Took a guest out for lunch here the other day, as I wanted to see the new addition to the Yellow Deli. I am familiar with the menu, and not much has changed. For a new comer, the interior is a novelty and Hobbit like, but the wood seating can get uncomfortable. Service has a curiously disinterest to it. Rare is a smile, and water, menu, and your food is presented to you indifferently. Price point is very reasonable but they have no fryer so only cold crisps with your sandwich. Soup, home made, is extra and I had a cup, which was quite good, although overdone with cream. Which brings me to a possible FoodSafe issue here. Within a half hour of leaving the establishment, we both had diarrhea. My suspicion is the rather wet sauerkraut on the Rueben or the "special sauce" on The Rose. Guys, you got to work on this one and check on any issues in the kitchen. Won't be coming back soon.We are so sorry! The description of your experience pained us, as it is not characteristic of the attitude and quality of service that we aim for. We desire that our customers would have a positive experience that they will never forget, not a negative one! We believe life is about people and we are deeply sorry that we would let anyone down in this fundamental aspect. In regards to your health concern, we would like to let you know that this was an isolated incident, but we are seriously investigating any potential causes of food-borne illness. We really do hope you will give us another chance!

Though I last reviewed this place six years ago, it has since changed ownership. Missing is the cordial owner/host (who turned out to be a tyrant to his staff and any quest that complained about anything). My friend and I had to wait to be seated, as expected, but we think current servers (3 on the floor when we were there), could do a better job of turning tables, as we saw empty tables while waiting. And one server appeared quite stressed. However once seated, we had another memorable brunch experience. The food here is so very fresh, creative and wonder and fully tasty! Kudos to server Savannah who had a smile on her face the whole time and said she "loved" working there. Other staff could learn from her. Kudos also for efforts to source their produce locally. However eggs from Duncan, two hours away, and Port Alberni for meat, seems a bit far to go when there are sources right here at home in the Comox Valley! If you go there knowing you will wait, you will be mightily rewarded! Can't wait to go back and possibly try a sweet dish, cause those crepes look awesome as well!
