The main city of the northern Tuscan Riviera area of Versilia, Viareggio began as a medieval fishing village, then later gained renown for its shipbuilding. In the mid-19th century, the town was developed as a seaside resort, which it’s been ever since. Today, the city is loved for its long beaches, pine woods, great shopping and lively nightlife. It’s also home to the famous carnival of Viareggio, dating back to the late 19th century and one of Europe’s most important carnival events.

Bagno Maurizio is ready to give you a warm welcome. Situated on the charming promenade of Viareggio, surrounded by excellent cafés, restaurants and shops, the establishment is just a few steps away from the beautiful pinewood of Viareggio and from the main square, Piazza Mazzini. Whether you are visiting the seaside resort of Viareggio for business or pleasure, the establishment provides a friendly and relaxing atmosphere at affordable rates. The private beach of Bagno Maurizio has a 30 meter beach frontage, offering a choice between 3 large tents of 7,5 square meters or classic beach umbrellas. One of the main characteristics of the beach is the amount of free space between umbrellas. Furthermore, the well-defined playground allows children to play in perfect safety.

We were lucky enough to to have beds and a parasol for free at Irene Beach as part of our hotel package. It's a very well kept area of the beach and the service is spot on. Every dish we tried in the restaurant was excellent, well I did sample the Warm Seafood Starter (enough for a very satisfying lunch on its own!) three times! It was delicious each time, slightly different depending on what seafood was available but always good. As was the pasta and the Tuna Salad. Of course if you fancy a change you can nip to the supermarket for something and eat that on your sunbed but the food and drink here is such good value you really don't need to.

The Carnevale di Viareggio is a carnival held in the city of Viareggio, Tuscany, Italy. It is one the most popular carnivals in Europe. The tradition of the carnival goes way back to 1873, when the first parade was held. This parade with colorful floats is held on the Viale Regina Margherita and its favorite subjects are caricatures of popular people. The Italians themselves love the Viareggio Carnival and despite the more and more curious tourists, the event holds an authentic Italian character. During the whole month you can enjoy some of the finest Italian culture with colorful night-parties, masked balls, and theater shows.
