So - a beautiful castle, big decorated guns when you enter, nice scenery, and the castle hosts the national portrait gallery of Sweden - so you get to see portraits of all the kings and nobles. but the great anecdote were the word scratched by prisoners who supported sigismund the 3rd when he was deposed and stayed in the castle's tower...

This is a must see if you visit Eskilstuna . Once inside you are taken back in time with a massive collection of vintage agricultural & construction machinery. Each machine is magnificently restored and maintained by wonderful staff. The museum is housed in the original Volvo BM factory making the visit special

This is a very genuine part of Sweden’s (Stockholm’s) east coast (from Norrtälje in the north to Trosa in the south) archipelago. On a warm and sunny day like this was, I can’t imagine any better place to be. Of course you can go here by yourself by boat but it’s also possible to take a car (a little more than a one hour drive from Stockholm). After parking, you can easily access a lot of the small islands via small suspension bridges to find your own favourite spot to spend the day sunbathing and swimming in the sea. Bring a picnic and stay a whole day. I also recommend a visit to nearby Trosa (for dinner for example) and maybe stay the night there at Trosa stadshotell or Bomans hotel. Both very good!

Arsenalen, the Swedish tankmuseum - a museum filled with vehicles, both with tracks and weels, from the early 1900s to modern Machines from the present day. Witness the smell and technical devlopment, and confront the fate of war from our times.
Well worth the trip to see a good range of rare Swedish Armour as well as many items of foreign armour used by Sweden. The museum consolidates the collections of a number of organisations to present a comprehensive overview of Swedish armour through the ages, and the display is modern, well laid out with vehicles easy to access from a number of angles. Photography is welcomed and there is a small gift shop and cafe attached. The staff were welcoming and informative. There is also a display of local regimental history and an extensive display of model figures. A must see for any fan of armour, especially if you are looking for rare items.

Absolutely worth a detour. The viking carvings with many wonderful details are on a large flat stone, hidden in the woods. Look for the explanation sign. You can park nearby and walk in the woods.

We visited this Museum twice during our stay in Nyköping; once with young granddaughters & also as a couple. We were delighted that there was so much information in English. The reception staff were very knowledgeable & friendly. The history of this fascinating building is very interesting. The 3 granddaughters, aged 7, 5 & 3 loved the "Find the Rats" trail! They also enjoyed the slightly scarey darkness & coloured lighting in some of the rooms. A very good half day experience.
