Pushkar (Hindi: पुष्कर) is a town in the Ajmer district in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is situated about 10 km (6.2 mi) northwest of Ajmer and about 150 kilometres (93 mi) southwest of Jaipur. It is a pilgrimage site for Hindus and Sikhs. Pushkar has many temples. Most of the temples and ghats in Pushkar are from the 18th century and later, because many temples were destroyed during Muslim conquests in the area. Subsequently, the destroyed temples were rebuilt. The most famous among Pushkar temples is the red spired Brahma Temple built during the 14th century CE. . It is considered a sacred city by the Hindus particularly in Shaktism, and meat and eggs consumption are forbidden in the city. Pushkar is located on the shore of Pushkar Lake, which has many ghats where pilgrims bathe. Pushkar is also significant for its Gurdwaras for Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh. One of the bathing ghats is called Gobind ghat built by the Marathas in the memory of Guru Gobind Singh.

As a couple we arranged this cooking course in Pushkar and it was so lovely! Deepa is a very sweet woman who teaches wonderfully and with care. Her English is very good and her cooking even better! We made dhal, gobi curry and brown chapatis, which she arranged specially due to an allergy, and for which we are very grateful. Couldn’t recommend this class more. Make sure to come the day before to secure a time.

On most of my travels I like to do a Cookingclass to learn more about the local herbs and spices. In this class we were showed all the herbs & spices by name and how to use. Also the explanation of difference in the hot spices and the other? They won't mix those two different kinds... Important to know, right? We started by making some Massala chai, always a good start! We got to make several dishes from curry to biryani and some nan and chapati. I loved the experience again. From every lesson I learn so much! Thank you!

First of all I want to say a thousand thanks to Swamiji for this beautiful journey. I did a 200 YTR course in Pushkar. Also I would have liked to be in a more natural setting but this city is very beautiful and resonates with my bohemian soul. So it is really good that you can choose between Pushkar and Rishikesh. As Swamiji says: “Walk in as a body, go out as a soul!” Yoga is for everyone, especially for those who ask themselves who they are and what is their purpose in this life. When I came here, I was already on a spiritual path and I knew that I was finally on the right path, but still some old patterns were coming up and I started asking myself questions about certain topics and here I was assured that I was on the right track. Everything happens for a reason! The Western world has given many people a false or misleading understanding of yoga. Raja Yoga also known as Ashtanga yoga, teaches us that yoga is a spiritual journey that accompanies you daily. Swamiji’s theory lessons and philosophy are very enlightening. For years, I have known that when I go to study yoga in depth, I want to choose a teacher who talks about where yoga started - its basics and purpose. Yoga temple is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city and the food was wonderful, I will definitely miss these flavours. And during the winter at Pushkar I recommend that you pack warm clothes as it can get very cold here. And on wedding season it gets really noisy there so be ready to concentrate even more. There were only three of us this time and it is really great that Swamiji accepts max 8 people so the teaching is very individual. Finally, if you want to change your lifestyle a little and grow as a soul, come to the Swamiji. I am very grateful and I am certainly more courageous and I believe in myself more than before, everything is possible! I am delighted with my spiritual name as well which will surely send me throughout my life! Thank you Swamiji for enlightening the path!

Deepak Ayurveda Massage Centre

A professional therapeutic service to help you reach a calmness and newness through traditional approaches so that you will be ready to return refreshed to the modern world you work in.

Reviewed By michele_de1982 - Rome, Italy

I booked an Ayurvedic massage just because of the amazing feedbacks I’ve read on Tripadvisor. I left the craziness of the came fair atmosphere here in Pushkar looking for a moment of peace and silence. Arriving close to Deepak’s place I noticed a switch: no chaos, everything was quite and calm. He was waiting outside, welcoming me to his place. We talked few minutes and then he started the massage... he feels the body and the energy of the person and work with it.. the massage has been like HEAVEN! But what is amazing, and what makes this man a true listener of the subtle messages of the body through the hands is that he gave all the advices that I knew I should follow for my health, he told me things that doctors said to me during years and that he felt during the massage! It’s not a simple massage, trust me! He also gave me advices about what to eat and what to avoid and so much more! If you’re in Pushkar you can’t skip this chance to take care of yourself! Thanks Deepak :)

Pushkar Yoga Garden

A Yoga and meditation retreat centre based on the ancient Indian ashram tradition, offering yoga and meditation courses and classes. Very welcome.

Reviewed By CatherineHindson - Cirencester, United Kingdom

Having just completed my 200hr ashtanga-vinyasa RYT, I have been keen to expose myself to as many forms of the wonderful practice that is yoga as possible whilst travelling India. I can honestly say that the "one day of yogic life" course, offered at The Pushkar Yoga Garden, has been such a highlight of my India experience! Yogesh was absolutely amazing, his teaching style was inspiring and you could feel the knowledge and genuine belief in what he was explaining to us. In just one day you will learn more than you would imagine possible about not only the traditional hatha yoga practice but also about Ayurveda (including some ayurvedic medicine which I found fascinating and was an unexpected bonus of the day). Yogesh offers students a chance to experience a traditional and pure form of hatha yoga which is so refreshing from the westernised yoga most of us practice at home. I could've talked to Yogesh for hours and hours about yoga and I would've only scraped the surface of his expertise, one day was definitely not long enough! Pushkar Yoga Garden is a wholly positive experience for beginner and experienced yogis alike! I am travelling with a friend who had never done yoga before India and she also found the day with Yogesh incredible; admiring how, despite his advanced practice, he remains so humble and relatable. If you're in Pushkar you should definitely make time to visit Yogesh at The Yoga Garden, at least going for one of his drop in yoga classes that run every morning and evening. Thank you so much Yogesh for the most wonderful day! Namaste Catherine
