Nicosia, the capital of the island of Cyprus, has incorporated elements of the many empires and kingdoms that have claimed it over centuries stretching back to the Bronze Age. Narrow winding streets lead visitors from the Cyprus Museum, with its collection of Neolithic and Roman artifacts, to the thick city wall. Built in the 1600s by the Venetians, the wall now divides the ancient part of the city from the modern. Step through the stone gates and enter a place where the past is still alive.

There is so much in this museum and it is so well presented, including narratives on the exhibits. Fortunately, the museum is not swamped with visitors so you have plenty of time to absorb what you are seeing and to spend time by your favourite items - I particularly liked their own version of the terracotta army (a lot more variety in their characters).

This museum - located in the old part of Nicosia - is a great way to learn about the history of Nicosia itself - going back thousands of years to more recent times. The museum has an excellent collection which is enhanced by well produced interactives and virtual tours. Best of all it is free. A must see.

The church is located in the woods and the drive to the church is really scenic. It has amazing frescoes very well preserved. A book is on sale which offers full details. No audio guide. There is no artificial light inorder to preserve the frescoes. Wear comfortable shoes as the path to the church is cobblestone but access is not difficult. Can combine the visit here with lunch to one of the restaurants in the vicinity.

We had a really nice relaxing day at that park despite the 40 degree temperature! We feed the ducks, turtles and fish in the lake, had a few drinks, ice cream, cheap prices, play a little baggamon under the shade and after a little more walk we made our way back home!!
