Affectionately called “Hungarian Sea,” Lake Balaton is one of the largest lakes in central Europe. The mountainous region of the northern shore is known both for its historic character and its wine region, while the flat southern shore is known for resort towns.

Absolutely lovely place. We've been here several years ago and it's only getting better! The owner's daughter speaks excellent English and is a great introduction to the world of Nemeth's wines. Delicious snacks: bread, ham and cheese. A must-have accessory for your tasting! Lovely, homely atmosphere. It's fun to be a part of it!

A charming district intersected by winding medieval streets and filled with quaint houses and grand palaces, shops, restaurants and a variety of interesting museums.
Beautiful view on the city. It worth to come here. You can see nearly the whole city. There are beautiful buildings: churches and tatuary.

The original abbey was established by King Andras I in the 11th century.
Driving along the lake Balaton we saw the brown road sign " Tihany ". With zero info, we drove up to find an interesting village which happened to be a touristic one to our surprised. Parking seemed not easy to find and finally we found one along the village main road. It was a pay parking. We went up following the direction to a baroque Abbey Church. Wow what an idyllic setting. Calendar-inspired views. One can make a pleasant walk in a well-paved pathways. In the Visitor Center, one can buy a ticket for a guided tour + a short film about the Abbey. I recommend this. Friar Richard guided us. A group of tourist had an spontaneous " choir concert ". Around the Abbey is a Guest House that opens whole year round. There is a pastry shop where you can have breakfast or hot meals. It has a terrace overlooking the placid, serene Balaton Lake. Beautiful. When in Balaton Lake, come to this village and be filled with spirituality too. Had a short stay but very meaningful. The Peace of God !

The lake of Hévíz is the biggest biologically active, natural medicinal water in the world. Its temperature is affected by the combination of cold and hot spring waters coming from underground. The medicinal water breaks out from the spring cave on the surface at the rate of approx. 410 litres per second and with a temperature of 40°C. According to that delivery, the water in the lake changes every three and a half days and keeps uniformly clean.
This place is gorgeous! We loved every second of our time there. For English speakers, it can be a bit confusing so here are my tips: 1. Get there by 10 to ensure a beautiful spot that is right next to the water. 2. Go the right as you enter because that is where it is less crowded and where the jacuzzis are 3. Bring snacks if you are there a long time, though they do have a lovely restaurant 4. Bring your own floatie or rent one for 1000ft deposit 600ft fee 5. Add the “wellness” package. It’s the jacuzzis and saunas and you won’t want to miss those. 6. Stay at least four hours! 7. Bring your own towel 8. ENJOY!!!

Zoo Veszprem is situated just 15 km from Lake Balaton, and it is the most favoured destination of tourists in the Central Transdanubian Region. The Zoo, which located in a beautiful environment awaits visitors every day of the year, including weekends and holidays. Beside seeing interesting animals, spectacular feeding actions, petting pens and organised events make the offer of the Zoo more colourful. Let’s explore the wonderful world of the animals!
We take a tour at the zoo on the way home from our honeymoon. I was here with my previous boyfriend in 2007 and since then almost everything has changed, but in a good way. We received a map and a program card with feeding times with the ticket and bought 2 portion of zoo food (only for ungulates!). Some parts of the zoo is under constraction, so we couldn't see everything, but it was a really nice trip. One of the kapibaras lay next to the fence so we could pet him/her, but it's a secret ;) The goats and lamas are really unashamed and made a pig of themselfs by tossing each other away. The wildlife part of the zoo is really nice and big, separated into different zones, one is for savannah animals, one is for camels, monkeys and so on and a new thing for me is the dino park. I think it is mostly for the children, it was a big annoying for me to read the given dinosaur was 9 meter long and I could see a 3 meter long something from plastic(?), but it was really realistic.

Our museum was established in order to raise the cult of Lake Balaton. Ever since our goals have remained the same, yet modern: we research and publicize the “Hungarian sea” by collecting, preserving, processing and presenting the natural values of Lake Balaton. We do not want to tell everything about Balaton, but we would like to show the major characteristics through which the lake and its history can be known. Our museum provides a comprehensive and public context in order to understand the environmental and social changes of the Balaton region. Our permanent exhibition recalls the history of the lake through eleven rooms. Our historical, archeological, ethnographic and natural history collections consist of 380. 000 items.
