Entebbe is a major town in Central Uganda. On a Lake Victoria peninsula, approximately 37 kilometres (23 mi) southwest of the Ugandan capital, Kampala, it was once the seat of government for the Protectorate of Uganda prior to independence, in 1962. Entebbe is the location of Entebbe International Airport, Uganda's largest commercial and military airport, best known for the dramatic rescue of 100 hostages kidnapped by the resistance group of the PFLP-EO and Revolutionary Cells (RZ) organizations. Entebbe is also the location of State House, the official office and residence of the President of Uganda.

Surrounded by the peaceful waters of Lake Victoria, Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is home to 49 orphaned chimps rescued from throughout Uganda. Island facilities offer day trips and overnight trips which provide exceptional opportunity to closely observe and interact with these fascinating great apes in this unique setting.
We had a few days in Entebbe before embarking on our birding and gorilla safari, so headed out to Ngamba Island Chimp Sanctuary. Well worth the visit, learnt a lot about chimps, had a wonderful boat ride on Lake Victoria crossing the equator each way and spent quite some time observing the bird and reptile life along the shore line of the island....a most enjoyable day!!

The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (Entebbe Zoo) is located 15 minutes from Entebbe International Airport, 36 kilometers from Uganda's capital Kampala. The centre cares for rescued animals, often victims of bush meat trade, habitat destruction, or illegal trade. Individuals that can make it in the wild, are released back. We don't buy animals nor use them for entertainment, but rather as ambassadors to help save and maintain those in the wild, wild! Listen to interpretative talks from our; keepers, guides work with animals every day. You can sign up as an animal surrogate mother for a day, participate in behind the scene experiences or simply spend a night in our hostel or African cottages as you await your flight or meeting! Our facility is ideal for both short and long stay/ visits, whilst in Uganda. Secure day and night parking available or quick access to public transport/ taxi is just a call away. We are always thrilled to receive your at UWEC Zoo, Entebbe.

The park was a great interesting place as the tour guide explains everything about the park and reptiles, if you have an hour to spend and 15,000ugx about $4USD then do go and support the facility.. you will have a great time as well as supporting the facility and reptiles.

We took a tour of the botanical gardens on our first day in Entebbe. Definitely take a tour guide as you will miss most things because there are very few signs. In addition to the plants, there are also monkeys (black and white colobus( which reportedly escaped from the zoo and have made the gardens their home. Some guides will offer the opportunity to feed/interact with the vervet monkeys. DO NOT feed the monkeys, they become more bold and can bite if you do.

I spent my last day in Uganda in Entebbe spending a good amount of time in the morning exploring several craft markets located onthe main road leading to the airport. Compared to the market in Kampala, I must say it was a little more relaxing and the price was marginally cheaper. In Kampala, you really have to spend long time to really figure out about the true price for items and likely the sellers would start out at higher price tag before you negotiate down but in Entebbe I found their starting price for the similar items isn't as high as Kampala. The size of each market might be smaller than one in Kampala and there are about 4~5 different sections you either walk or take a boda(motorcycle taxi, each ride for 2000~3000) to hop from one place to another.
