Old Dubbo Gaol is a state heritage listed must see. This remarkably complete and intact gaol operated for 119 years from 1847 to 1966 and is still nestled in the main street of Dubbo. This set of 19th and 20th century gaol buildings create a pocket in time, and the experiences within brings history to life. This regional gaol is representative of powerful, surprising and dark moments in Australian prison history. We house important collections such as the hangman's kit and gallows, and unforgettable experiences such as the dark cells and the bird's-eye view from the watchtower. With guided tours, night tours, and theatrical experiences on offer, the Old Dubbo Gaol is a rare piece of history open to explore.
Well worth a visit whilst in Dubbo, very interesting and gives the kids a real sense of what life would have been like in gaol.

Red Earth Estate is located 4.5Kls from Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Visit our winery and experience more than just a wine tasting. For that total experience, enjoy a cheese platter and talk to our winemaker. All our wines are made on-site, using fruit predominately from our own Dubbo vineyard. Wines available for sale - Riesling, Verdelho, Torrontes, Moscato, Grenache, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Best dumplings ever, home made so very fresh and tasty, sort of a limineted menu yum cha, Great atmosphere and service, even better if you like their 2 super friendly Border Collies if you sit outside Also good wine at reasonable price

Night Sky & Telescope Viewing Bring your SLR camera to take astrophotographs through the telescope. Daytime viewing of Solar flares and sunspots, planet Venus and some daytime stars Astrominigolf
We (2 adults with a 6 year old boy) did the night sky & telescope tour on a Thursday night. We were surprised to see the number of people turning up for the tour, which was well over 20 people. Despite the crowd and waiting our turns to use the telescopes, it was well worth it. Peter gave us a good, albeit brief, introduction to what we are seeing. His use of the laser pointer was also very useful in pointing out the various stars, constellations, etc. At the end of the tour, we passed him a SD card to capture a photo of the nebula using his camera. You could also use your own DSLR camera, should you wish to. My son didn't find it boring and enjoyed looking at Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, and others. I think for the next trip, we will book the premium tour.

A visit to this National Trust (NSW) property, allows visitors to engage in a special experience, stepping back into rural life in the early colony. Its story is one of amazing endeavour and vision, evidenced in the creation of a finely crafted historic home. The homestead has survived in near original condition at a time when the land was beyond the limits of settlement. Today it is set on 4 hectares of land, surrounded by farmland and is only 5 minutes from the city of Dubbo. Experience the tranquility of a unique part of Australian pioneering history. Enjoy a self guided tour at your leisure. Guides are also able to assist and enhance your experience. Adults $10; Concessional entry price $8; Family (2 adults/2 children) $25.00.
What a pleasure to visit the homestead and learn so much about the history of this national treasure. Our guide, Karen, has an amazing passion for sharing the experiences of early settlers as they worked and lived in the Dubbo region. Definitely worth a visit when next in Dubbo.
