Overview: The Cavan Adventure Centre is located within the ROI side of the UNESCO Marble Arch Caves Global GeoPark. The beautiful lowlands were formed by glacial erosion in the last ice age and has since become home to a wide and varied diversity of wildlife, in particular waterbirds and raptors. The abundance of such spices has also given the area status as a bird sanctuary. The area is also of significant importance to the heritage of the region. The island castle of Cloughoughter, constructed in the 13th century (unknown but aprox) is located 3km from our Centre and once represented the stronghold of the O'Rourke clan in the old Kingdom of Brefini. This was before being taken over by the Anglo-Norman William Gorm de Lacy when they wrestled control of the region. At the Centre we promote the regions heritage, culture and unique landscape. We achieve this by engaging the public, schools and tourists in fun, interesting and active ways. We promote outdoor activities, education, conse

If in Kingscourt then a visit to Gartlans pub is a must. We got a very warm welcome and the interior is a throw back from years gone by. Traditional music every Sunday 6-930. And the pints of Guinness are top quality.

Elena is an award-winning Jewellery Designer, Goldsmith and Master Pattern maker, creating beautiful, modern pieces, in her own distinctly Celtic style. Elena has worked with the National Museum of Ireland and her work has been stocked in the British Museum. Collections Include; Children Of Lir, My Angel, Mise Eire and Oops A Daisy. The Jewellery Studio is located 3 miles from Cavan Town. It is a workshop first and foremost, not a retail shop in the normal sense. I have a few showcases, where customers can browse and buy my jewellery and also discuss their special requests with me. Sometimes I am in the middle of doing lots of noisy work, or I'm trying to get pieces made to deadlines, so it doesn't always suit to see visitors., as I said, it is a working workshop. Please ring, text or email before coming out to the studio, (it also gives me time to tidy up a bit!!) If you just call on spec, that's usually ok too, but... I might not be there...
Purchased a beautiful brooch from Elena for a special birthday gift for my auntie. Cannot recommend highly enough, Elena went above and beyond for my requests with the purchase and was so helpful throughout! It was presented beautifully with a personalised card!

As a family we'd thought of visiting this museum for quite some time. Why did we wait so long? The surroundings are beautiful and there was ample parking spaces. The museum has a fascinating outdoor space with a beautiful little Peace Garden for reflecting in, alongside two evocative experiences with the Battle of the Somme and Easter Rising exhbitions. The recreation of a World War 1 trench complete with information and audio points was very poignant. To be able to immerse yourself in the period and try to imagine what life must have been like for those serving and dying in those trenches was very moving and eye-opening indeed. Indoors there are exhibitions spread over 3 floors dealing with many periods of Ireland's history. To have so much under one roof is testament to those who have painstakingly put this museum with its abundance of artefacts and treasures together. Our daughter has severe sight problems but she found the museum to be very accessible and well lit, with the added bonus of the audio material outside helping her immerse herself in the Trench Experience. It certainly won't be as long until we are back for another visit. From our arrival at the museum, to our interaction with the lovely lady on reception/gift shop duty, and the abundance of treasures on show, this has been one of our best ever museum visits. One word of warning though, leave plenty of time for your visit to enable you to take full advantage of everything on offer. We definitely will arrive a bit earlier next time.

Cavan Burren Park is a stunning prehistoric park located in the UNESCO designated Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark in West Cavan. The site boasts numerous geological and archaeological features including megalithic tombs and glacial erratics. The site has recently been transformed into an amazing accessible prehistoric park with five looped walking trails including a multi-access trail as well as a brand new interpretative centre, toilet and car park facilities and interpretation across the site. We hope you enjoy it!
What a fantastic hidden gem - absolutely beautiful, peaceful and amazing place....kind of fell on it on a scenic drive and so glad we did. Well signed paths, lots of easy to digest info posts, and routes linked together so easy to do a detour at your will. Fantastic sense of history and the VIEWS!! WOW. We were lucky - after a rainy morning blue skies and clear view all the way to Sligo - stunning. Boardwalks would be a great adventure for wee ones and none of the paths are overly challenging (from a plump middle aged doll) One advantage of Covid was we were totally alone and could enjoy the total serenity. Loved it!

we went to deerpark forest walk while on a break in virginia co cavan , it had rained for 2 days solid after 10 days of sunny dry weather so the timing coulnt be worse , the signage for the forest was a bit baffling as the signs were pointing in the wrong direction to where the car park (rugby club) actually was and some branches were obscuring the signage until you were almost on top of it - or past it - a small issue that could easily be addressed with a couple of spanners and a pair of loppers by the local authorities im sure !! anyway we did the 5k route around the forest - watch out for the hidden fairy doors - well worth spotting as some of them are really very well made . the track way by the lakeside was a bit flooded from all the rain especially next to the golf club and some of the dead and fallen trees could be removed to make access and views a while lot better but other than that a very peaceful and pleasant walk ,nice way to pass a couple of hours . and if you do decide to take a walk here - PLEASE take your litter home with you ,dont leave it in the forest or the car park as SOME people had done .
