This State Reserve is a show piece of "Florida country". It is well maintained and has minimum vehicle traffic. Most visitors seem to clean up after themselves which is very nice.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would! It’s a wildlife enthusiast’s heaven, full of a vast array of birds (various herons, egrets, moorhens, anhinga, limpkin, sandhill cranes, vultures, ibis species, etc) and many turtles and alligators. The park is large and well-maintained, a truly spectacular place to view wildlife. The park is in full sun, so prepare accordingly.

Looking for a day trip, I found this 40 minutes form our vacation home. Very interesting local history with restored houses belonging to families from the early 1800's through early 1900's. Kids will enjoy seeing what life was like in the old days, explore a replica of an old fort, and see what an actual school house looked like from the early 20th century. There is a large playground for climbing and swinging. Bring a picnic lunch as there are picnic tables and pavilions all around. And the park is totally free. Enjoy.

Jungle Adventures, A Real Florida Animal Park is the natural habitat jungle home of our rare Florida Panthers, Black Bears, Wolves, White-Tailed Deer, Tropical Birds, Reptiles, Mammals, and other critters. When you enter this timeless old Florida Hidden Treasure attraction on a journey into a lost world that time forgot. SEE, HEAR, SMELL AND FEEL OLD, REAL FLORIDA. Live Guided Tours include a Hands On Wildlife Presentation where you get to hold a juvenile American Alligator, a Native American/Old Florida Village Presentation learning how Florida's 1st Settlers survived in the area, a Gator Feeding - watch our guides hand feed the larger gators in the park, and our Jungle Swamp Cruise, a 15 minute, in park pontoon boat ride on our Green Gator River, home to over 50 large (9 to 14 foot) alligators. Once you complete your guided tour, you are able to walk at your leisure and see the animals that we have on exhibit that include lemurs, monkeys, crocodiles, caimans, Florida Panthers/Cougars and variety of other interesting animals including over 200 alligators in various areas.
WOW, just 30 minutes away all this time and I never realized what lay within. Though $28 seemed a bit steep at first for such a tiny, roadside attraction (FYI, veterans are BOGO), you feel it's a worthwhile value in the end. Visitors are treated to a hands-on wildlife show (you can hold baby gators, snakes, tarrantulas, and pet a lavendar skunk!) and can wander through a recreated Native American village (there is a replica "chickee", tools made from buffalo jawbones, and loads of other artifacts). A long elevated boardwalk meanders through the jungle where over 100 alligators are camoflauged under a veneer of mud or piled together basking in the sun. You would NEVER realize you're 100 yards from a highway! Dozens of other animals are on display in small but natural habitats (coyotes, Florida black bear, talking macaws, lynx, endangered Florida panthers, and crocodiles), and at feeding times, you can gasp as the gators jump out of the water to snap up raw meat dangling from the fist of a very BRAVE park worker (and yes, he still has all his fingers). Saving the best for last, and gaining yet another perspective, you can board a pontoon boat and cruise upon the serene river, spotting more gators and tons of bird species as you glide under a canopy of trees. By the time you've investigated every nook and cranny of this place, you're giddy that you've discovered this hidden little gem that no one else seems to know about...and realize it was WELL worth the admission fee.
