Hardangervidda is the largest mountain plateau in Europe. This is where you will find Norway's largest national park. The scenery is varied with steep mountainsides and spectacular views. The countryside there is diverse, ranging from flat plains on the eastern side to steep mountains and fjords in the west. It is home to Europe's lagerst herd of wild reindeer and several other artctic plants and animals. There are many opportunities for fishing, and mountain trout from Hardangercidda are famous for their excellent quality.

Blaafarvevaerket, or the Royal Cobalt Works of Modum was established in 1773 for the extraction of cobalt ore from the local mines in the surrounding hills. Today Blaafarvevaerket is one of Norways best known tourist attractions offering historical insight into the extraction and production of cobalt, guided tours of the mines and surrounding area and annual art exhibitions. Other attractions at the museum are the Theodor Kittelsen museum. The artist that created the troll as we know it! Children's Farm, several shops and eateries makes us a complete destination for all travellers. The museum and surrounding area is a popular tourist destination in central Eastern Norway with the Vikersund Ski Flying Arena, the worlds largest, and several other destinations for active tourists near by.
I have not been there for more than 20 years and what I remember best is the peaceful surroundings: the white houses with their black wood, the large lawns and the tall white birches by the lazy river. Serene and still peaceful. We spent quite som time in their arts exhibition, which changes every year. We also spent time (and money) in their various shops, had a waffle break at the Tranen cafeteria by the waterfall, and walked down from there to the other side of the river. From where we had to walk all the way up again as the float to take us over the river is far too heavy for three persons in their 60s to pull to the other side. Some info about that would have been nice! All in all a wonderful day on one of the probably last summer days this year.

World Record at the World’s Largest Hill Before the Trial World Championships in 2011, a new, comprehensive development of Vikersundbakken was completed; the hill became a full-fledged K-195, and declared the world’s largest ski-flying hill. During the Trial World Championships, Johan Remen Evensen flew down to a fantastic new world record of 246.5 meters. In 2011, further development at the hill was done before the World Championships in February, 2012. The expectations for the World Championships in 2012 were sky high, and were met. With more than 60,000 spectators and a record high number of television viewers, this became the all-time high World Championships in Ski-Flying! In February 2015 Peter Prevc is writing history. He is the first human that have jumped 250 meters on ski. But the same weekend Anders Fannemel beet this record with 251,5 meter. What a weekend in Vikersund. We look forward to World Cup 12.-14. February in 2016.

One ticket will give you access to all five museums. The Norwegian Mining Museum offers you the history of the Silver Mines and the worlds largest and most precious display of native silver. The Skimuseum has an astonishing collection consisting of over 5000 trophys. The Royal Mint Museum gives you an insight of the citys coin production from its beginning up until today. The museum of arms and weapons opened the year 2000 and conveys the industrial history of Kongsberg starting 1814. The Silvermines Join a train ride that takes you 342 meters below the surface and 2,3 km into the mountain. Inside the King’s mine there is a guided tour through stopes, adits and shafts. A mine elevator built in 1881 (“Fahrkunst”), is just one of many things to see on this tour, which takes 1,5 hours. The temperature is 6°C, so please dress warm! Children under 3 years are not permitted to entre the Silvermines.
We had a rental car for the day and were looking for things to do around Oslo. Unfortunately, there's not a lot. But the silver mine in Kongsberg sounded like it would be interesting, and it was close enough to be worth the drive. Note that there is a museum and silver mine tour that are in separate locations. This review is for the tour as we did not have time to visit the museum. There are normally three tours offered: 10:00, 12:00p, and 2:00p. We opted for the 10:00 tour. They actually suggested doing a different tour as the early morning tours are frequently filled with schoolchildren but that was the only time that worked with our schedule. While there were lots of schoolchidren, this actually worked to our advantage as we ended up with a private tour as the only two English speakers (normally there are separate Norwegian and English tours). You will need tickets, and you should buy them ahead of time as availability can be limited. The tour takes you into the mine in a small enclosed train car. It's about a 15 minute ride. If you don't like loud, small, dark places, this is not for you. It's not a smooth ride, but it wasn't too bad, and earplugs are provided to reduce noise. The mines are really impressive. They were active for more than 300 years and produced an enormous quantity of silver. It was interesting to learn about mine operations prior to the invention of dynamite. We also learned about German influence on the area and history of the mines in World War II. The mines are enormous. You will only get to see a small portion of them, but it's plenty to see. In addition to the mines themselves you do get to see some equipment that operated drills and pumps. You will also be able to see a working elevator that dates to the 19th century. They warn you that it's cold in the mine. This is accurate. It was only a few degrees above freezing. Bring a warm jacket and dress appropriately even if it's warm outside. I found that I was fine without gloves. If you have even a slight interest in mining or history, Sølvgruvene is a great place to visit. I highly recommend it. The mine is neat to see, our tour guide was awesome, and it was a highly unique experience.

Kjosterudjuvet is a 10.000 year old, spectacular, ravine only 10 minutes from Drammen centre. The ravine is 1300meters long and the stone walls are more than 60meters high. A more exiting excursion is hard to find!
Have good shoes when you walk here, would also recommend a bottle of water. You can either walk in the Kjøsterdjuvet og on the hill beside it, both of them lead you to the top where you will see gamledammen.

If you are in Drammen and have some time to spear, visit spiralen, you have many different paths up here, but i think the ZIC ZAK is the fastet. from the cemetery you can walk up in 19 min, or jog even faster. The wiew is good, and if you get hungry, there is a resturant at the top, but chem the opening hours before you plan to eat there. From spiralen there are a lot of different paths to continue your hiking/biking trip. And in the water some of these paths are prepped for skiing.
