Alessandro Tagliapietra - Murano Glass Jewels

Reviewed By totallyanonymous24 - London, United Kingdom

I stumbled across this shop on a trip to Burano with my Mum and it was such a great find. Mum got some scarves and I bought the funkiest sunglasses and a necklace/earring set which was even altered to the length I was after. The owner is so friendly (speaks brilliant English and French I heard) and so accommodating. Genuinely was a pleasure. If only the sun was lasting longer in the UK for me to wear my sunglasses!! Many thanks again.

Isola di Burano

Just 40 minutes from Venice, Burano is one of the most characteristic islands of the lagoon. Famous for its colorful houses, lace making and local fish cuisine

Reviewed By EcoBean - Kennington, United Kingdom

Burano is like the baby sister of Murano, with plenty of opportunity to buy the fantastic murano glass, but Burano, is actually more famous for it's lace making and products. There are women dotted around the shops demonstrating their lace making skills, and plenty of small lace items to buy a piece of this artwork. The buildings and architecture on this island are really colourful (purportedly the fishermen painted their houses bright colours to find their way home in the frequent fogs that cover the Islands). The maze of brightly painted homes are a delight to wander around and between the shop lined streets are plenty of restaurants, bars and bistros to enjoy a break and refreshments. I recommend the ice-cream parlours!! Can't leave Italy without trying the ice-cream. The frequency of the water buses between Burano, Murano and the main islands of Venice is good, right into the early hours of the morning, and very reasonably priced to make a complete day of island hopping cheaply and easily.

Tre Ponti

"I tre Ponti" is one of the most beloved places by tourists visiting Burano. Because? Because it offers simultaneously an incredible panoramic on three of the most colorful banks of the island. A photography enthusiast can't miss the opportunity to take its own photos of the colorful houses , remaining suspended over the water .

Museo del Merletto

The museum is located at the historic Palace of Podestà of Torcello, former seat of the Burano Lace School from 1872 to 1970. Rare and precious pieces offer a complete overview of the history and artistry of the Venetian and lagoon’s laces, from its origins to the present day are on display, in a picturesque setting decorated in the typical colors of the island. The exhibition is accompanied by videos, illustrated explanations, and a number of other vintage items which frame the works and offer an easy and multidisciplinary understanding. During the opening hours of the museum you will also be able to see the work of the skilled lacemakers.

This museum is located on the island of Burano and we had admission through the our Venezia Unica Platinum pass. Whilst this museum was small in comparison to other museums it did not detract from its importance. It showed on how the lace industry developed in Burano with the encouragement of local families. I found the examples within the museum to be absolutely marvellous where they had drawers of Lace examples showing top class lace working. I really liked this museum in the way they are trying to preserve the history of lace making

This little square could be missed if you rushed through it on the way to the shopping street, make sure you take the time to stop and take a 360 degree look aroung, the local church and its own leaning tower in on directon, lace shops in the other and a very neat and clean town square to explore.
