I'd resisted the charms of Grain so far, despite the incredible backstory, because I'm not a fan of taster menus or small plates. However, am I glad I managed to set aside those concerns?! The food is head and shoulders above anything else on offer locally. The service is friendly and attentive, the menu diverse and interesting and the Bachhus white wine from New Hall Vineyard in Essex a revelation! Now, if I could only have a full portion....

Visited this little cafe on a beautiful sunny morning so I drank my coffee at one of the tables outside. Cappuccino was £2.40 and was lovely. Tables were clean, chairs comfy and atmosphere friendly. Particularly liked the jar of sugar cubes on the table and the rose was a beautiful touch.Be aware that you need to spend at least £10 if you want to use a card to pay (not an issue for me).Toilet was large enough for a wheelchair if needed.Plenty of signs so it was easy to find and only a minute or so away from the river.Noticed bowls of water for dogs and a high-chair for little ones, so they seem to have thought of everything.Thank you for your lovely review. I just need to make one correction, our minimum spend on card is £5 not £10. thanks again though and I hope to see you soon x

Meal for two in restaurant was fair, fish was nicely cooked but expensive. Main issue was one surly male member of staff who insisted on having an outside door open as he was coming and going. It was a cold day and customers were reaching for their coats. WE and others complained to a waitress who closed the door, but the gentleman returned and opened it stating it must stay open as he wanted to go in and out. Zero customer service and a threatening look to all customers. Reported to manager who said 'its only one member of staff'Hi, we are sorry you feel this way about your experience at our restaurant and I will be talking to the staff about this situation. The issue with the door and bins is hard for us to get around as we have a certain time they must be taken out and the walk way from the back to the front needs to be open all the way through. Usually we would sit customers away from the door and do the bins as quickly as possible. The customer service you received will be seen to.The price of our restaurant is extremely low to other restaurants around the area and we were set to cheap and value for money on trip advisor. We also do student and OAP deals that aren't match anywhere for a sit down meal with waiter service.

We visit this pub several times a year mostly in the summer because of its lovely beer garden and pretty view although we rarely eat there because itâs a tad expensive. Previously it has been a very pleasant place with a nice cliental and atmosphere and we thought it would be ideal to take a close friend for lunch however when we visited yesterday something had changed. While the quality of the food was very good we waited nearly 45 minutes between ordering and receiving our food. When querying it was explained that they were prioritising people with young children which to be fair I could understand because these children were somewhat âdisruptiveâ but nevertheless. While not the fault of the staff (the parents are entirely to blame) the children were noisy and ruined the ambience and we felt that there should have been a separate area for families - incidentally we are grandparents and understand children are children. People are paying a significant amount of money for their meal and should not have to wait 45 minutes and be deafened while eating. In closing I must stress that the staff were friendly and the food very good.Whilst it's not our standard code of practise to prioritise young children over adults, on this isolated occasion I felt it was the most appropriate course of action, given the situation. The child you referred to in your review had severe learning difficulties and to alleviate the infant's distress that day,I believed it beneficial to all involved, if the child was served their meal as quickly as possible. This was the only table that was prioritised over yours. This did add a 20 minute delay onto the normal expected food wait of 20-25 minutes, to which I can only apologise.

My wife went here for lunch. The setting is lovely: a restored and embellished country house. The service is friendly and efficient. But the food, in our experience, is mediocre. My wife had ratatouille; I had a Caesar salad with chicken. Both were completely tasteless and my wifeâs food was lukewarm verging on cold. The meal wasnât hugely expensive, around £25 for the two plates plus sparkling water. But it wasnât value for money either. We wonât be going back.

We enjoyed a very nice lunch at this modern place in East Mersea that I had noticed on the Visit Mersea website. There is a nice outdoor terrace and field but, as it was a hot day, we opted to stay inside. No problem getting a table and our food was promptly brought up. Everything was so freshly made and we very much enjoyed our goats cheese salad and spinach and halluomi open sandwich. The huge and piping hot triple cooked chips were a bonus as well.We looked round the shop which has lots of locally made foods and arts & crafts and even went back to the restaurant for coffee and ice cream. All in all, a real highlight of our day trip to Mersea Island. That's really lovely to hear. Thank you so much.
