Downham Arms is famous for flame-grilled food and sizzling skillets. All of our steaks are 28 day matured and there's nowhere better to get a pint when the football's on! We offer a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, unbeatable value and a great place to
Having recently moved into area, trying a few local places and this evening we came to Downham Arms.....and so glad we did!.As soon as we arrived we felt comfortable, and welcomed. Menu is varied and great choice of drinks.Had sharer starter and bacon popcorn at first, and both were lovely. For mains my wife had mixed grill, and kids had steak. The steaks were cooked to perfection!.When I was looking at the menu, the manager came over and recommended the chick n mix challenge.....so I went for it. Was a lot of food, but was again cooked beautifully and so tasty!.For dessert we tried the epic choctastic sundaes and they were superb. All in all was a great night out and we will be back.....everyone was really friendly, and I cannot recommend this place highly enough.....already planning our return trip!Hey there!Thank you for the lovely comments and weâre all glad you had a great evening. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Living locally we often frequent this restaurant the food is to die for we love Indian food and this is the best restaurant .we visited last weekend it was busy and they didnt have many staff which meant long waits to get a waiter the few waiters there also have to do the take away. We love the restaurant but not the service they need more staff especially at a weekend

It was the worst meal I've every had. The roast potatoes were over cooked and hard, the gratin potatoes were swimming in oil, cauliflower cheese was dry, and the Yorkshires dripped grease from them. I won't be going back. I had a mini pudding with a coffee, it said extra with a liquor, so that's what I ordered only to find when the bill came they charged me for a liquor coffee £350 , so I got a mini pudding and no coffee. I may as well of had a normal pudding. Really sorry about the food Compass47797021710. Lovely log cabin situated on in garden centre serving hot and cold food and drinks 7 days a week also sell beer and wine. we are on just eat and do deliveries too
Arrive for lunch, managed to get a seat, but had to ask for the table to be wiped down. The staff were friendly but very busy as every table was taken, the noise level however was so great we were having to almost shout at each other to be heard; there is definitely a need for sound dampening or proofing. We opted for the big breakfast: - 2 Bacon, 2 eggs, sausage, toms, mushrooms, 2 slices of toast and a mug of tea £8.20 each - which was very tasty, arrived in good time and piping hot.The door could do with an automatic closer as it was left open several times giving us a cold blast of air.

All staff are very accommodating and friendly, the food is worth waiting for as it comes out piping hot and it tastes as good as it looks. They have good deals, good menus. I am always recommending them where and if I can. Ignore the decor because it is the staff and food which is the main thing to go there for. Brilliant through and through. All staff deserve a mention because they work so well as a team. So....a big thanks to......Emma, Katy, Lisa, Monta, Claire & Katie, well done all of you.

We pop in for a family meal after my sister in law just finished work, it was quiet with about 10 tables max. Found a table pretty quickly that was a bonus and when ordering food from the bartender who looks like a manager where the only 2 good things on our visit. Carvey was all put away with meats gone at 19:30 when the carvey finishes at 20:30 from the menu.We ordered a starter with mains but then the starter arrived but not the mains, fair enough i went to find out where the rest is as want to eat together. Response i got was they will go look but no apology or communication onto how long it will be or for a manager to explain what happen or appoligise/explain it was a genine mistake and we are chasing to get your order out asap. I work as a general manager myself so understand not every shift can be perfect but all i wanted was some comunication and we would of left happy My sister in law recieved my chips then her new ones arrived 5+mins later after i had to chase, we seemed to get ignored alot of the time as no check back to see if food was ok. They seemed to want to chat at the bar instead of interacting with the guests, especially when issues where arrising. A gentleman who must be a regular even complained about food but this was dealt with correctly and effectively from the manager so i know they can do it but choose not to with our table. Such a shame and just hope this feedback helps you and the business.Your feedback helps us improve, so thank you for taking the time to let us know how we did. If you are willing. We look forward to hearing from you.

Went here for my birthday - we had no idea where to go, but this came up as good so gave it a whirl. From the outside it looked like a local pub for local people, but once inside, it was brilliant. Attentive friendly staff, amazing food, reasonably priced and really nice. We'll be back I'm sure!

We stopped for lunch on a rare day off together. He had a ploughmanâs like none weâd seen before...beautifully presented with thick sliced ham, a good selection of generously sized cheese wedges and pickles/garnish with baguette. Absolute heaven on a plate! I had a flatbread with halloumi which was lovely my only disappointment was that there could have been a better selection of salad leaves. Very tasty & reasonably priced. Huge portions! Thank you.

I have moved from Wickford but I still go back here for my fish and chips. The food is great and the portion size is generous . There is never a massive wait time despite always being busy. None of the local chippies compare!!
