Fish and Chip shop
We called for lunch on a day trip to Thirsk. We sat upstairs in a spacious dining area, which was clean. My husband and I ordered the Fish, Chips and mushy peas, our daughter the Scampi, Chips and mushy peas. All meals were served with slices of bread and butter. Our meals were served quickly and were well cooked and presented. They were very enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Booked lunch on way to Scarborough, beautifully old worldly pub. Greeted with a smile drinks order taken and shown to our table. The choice on the menu should suit all tastes. We ordered the lamb shank and chicken which was delicious, lovely fresh vegetables and a scrummy cauliflower and leeks in cheese sauce. Give The Whitestonecliffe Inn a try well worth it. We will be back again.

Used always to come here and it was great. We havenât been over for a while and I think it must have changed owners because itâs nothing like it was. The service was hopeless, lots of staff not doing much. The waitress got our drinks order all wrong. Then two of our meals arrived but the third one didnât, after thinking it would be coming any minute for 15 minutes, we realised it wasnât, and they had forgotten it completely. By the time it arrived, two of us had finished and the third had to eat alone. We were offered a free cup of tea! Wow. All in all, not very good and overpriced.Anyway, lots of lovely places to choose from and we wonât be coming back to this one. After reading your comments and what I deem to be a grossly unfair condemnation of our cafe, contrary to my morals, I reluctantly felt obliged to reply... I will address the fact (singular, and not plural), raised in your 'review'...Yes, we missed your cheese omelette from the order (we can only offer our sincere apologies......again!). We are only human after all. After realising the omission, we were quick to address the situation (much quicker than the 15 minute claim [I put this down to being a bit of poetic licence to add a touch of gravitas to your 'review'], but alas, I digress), and so, as a means of apology, offered you and your family complimentary drinks (anything from the menu, free of charge), you chose to take us up on our gesture by asking for "a jug of hot water for your tea".............Wow. In addition to this, we rightly gave your order priority over the numerous other orders we had in the kitchen at that time and after your departure, the empty plates and cups hinted that a mutually satisfactory conclusion to this matter had been realised. Although on reflection; your facial expressions, body language and subsequent review should have suggested otherwise. The waitress you refer to, is my business partner and joint manager of our cafe. Your claim that she got the drinks order "all wrong" is certainly not indicative of our recollection of this situation. We are a small, independent cafe located in a small market town in North Yorkshire. We strive for satisfaction by offering what we deem to be good value, honest, homemade food, drinks and cakes served by a hardworking and dynamic team in pleasant and relaxed surroundings. After reading your other Tripadvisor reviews; we can only assume that the individuality and honesty of what we offer at Yorks is something you have not become accustomed to at Toby Carvery and Morrisons. It was unfortunate for us to realise that you chose to be yet another faceless Tripadvisor contributor rather than taking the opportunity to raise your concerns with us whilst at Yorks, our only saving grace is that you have chosen not to return.Regards,Matthew Fowler-Jones

A traditional English pub with a relax atmosphere. Whether you are calling in for a drink, a delicious meal or a family celebration, weâve sure you will enjoy your visit.
Pre-booked a Birthday meal for my wife and myself but had mixed feelings about going on a Sunday evening after their popular Sunday lunches. Everything went well. Although busy with the residue of the earlier lunches we were warmly greeted and seated and theyâd reserved a nice corner table for us. I opted for a 20 oz. steak from the Specials Board. It was spot-on Medium Rare and excellent quality. My wife had a 10 oz. steak perfectly cooked to Medium and really enjoyed it. The accompanying chips were nicely browned and well cooked. Restaurants often undercook the veg these days but the Carlton had just the right balance leaving a slight crunch but a sense of being nicely cooked. The onion rings were superb - real onion in a delicate crispy batter. Service was really quick and couldnât have been friendlier. A pint of Theakstons with the meal was superb, very well kept. All-in-all an excellent choice for my wife and I at a reasonable price.

Ate here on a Friday lunchtime - It was fairly quiet but actually very good. One of our party required a Gluten free meal and this was extremly well catered for. The young lady serving was very friendly and efficient. Food was good quality, unpretentious and reasonably priced. If you are in the area, give it a go.

Family run freehold pub with restaurant serving home cooked food and real ales. Five en-suite rooms available on bed and breakfast basis.
Booked this B+B after looking at the reviews and we were not disappointed. The room was very comfortable with tea + coffee provided. We ate on both of our nights and the food was delicious. Although it was busy the service was quick and all the staff are welcoming and friendly. We will go back.
