We ate here for the second time on a drive home from Hastings, stopping in the restaurant itself. The fish was beautifully seasoned and cooked and not greasy or too big a portion. But the chips, the chips! OMG - twice cooked is the secret, and so hot and crispy, the whole meal rises up to a new level. People of Tenterden, you are so lucky!!

The Tiny Teapot

Small tea room serving light breakfasts and lunches. Specialising in afternoon tea, with homemade scones and cakes.

The Tiny Teapot is indeed very small, but cosy. We can only confirm the positive experiences of other reviewers and visitors. Very friendly staff and the food and service was excellent. We had a (huge) Afternoon Tea. Sandwiches, scones and cake all freshly homemade. Accompagnied by a (very) large pot of tea. We certainly will come back to enjoy more. So we can only recommend the Tiny Teapot in the beautiful village of Biddenden!

First the positives: we booked for lunch but needn’t have, lots of availability . Big open fire, warm welcome from host, tasteful Christmas decorations and music.Less good was the excessive wait for average food and the obvious ( overheard) comments that they were short handed in the kitchen and the landlord was having to wait tables and serve drinks. Underwhelming all round

Went to The White Lion last night with my family for a late lunch/early dinner. We booked online for a slot at 4pm as there seemed to be no tables available later than that even though it was absolutely dead.Firstly, when we went in there was no sign or staff around to take you to your table. So, we ended up standing in what we thought was the queue to be seated but when I finally managed to flag down a waitress after 10 minutes waiting, she said that queue was for the hotel and proceeded to stare at me like I had horns. So, I had to ask her again where we had to go to be seated as we had booked a table and by this point it was 5 minutes past our time. After a brief moment, she finally looked on the computer and took us to our table. However, she didn't leave menus or ask us if we wanted drinks or anything. Just pointed to the table and left. After 15 minutes of sitting there, one of us had to actually flag down a waitress ourselves (who was at the other side of the restaurant) to get some menus and drinks.Drinks took a further 15 minutes to arrive Then we ordered food. After an hours wait, food finally arrived. Now it wasn't exactly a difficult order and the restaurant had about 4 tables seated so that wait time was definitely ridiculous. I get that things might be getting cooked fresh but an hour is excessive. The food was standard, at best. I could have cooked it all better at home to be honest. When we booked here we were under the impression that it was a gastro pub, so we believed it to be a little more that just bog standard pub food, it's not. It's just pub food, but the menu disguises it at something posh. The sausage and Mash was okay, Gravy was the lumpiest Gravy I've ever had. The chicken breast main was on the bone but that wasn't stated on the menu, the person who got it doesn't like eating meat off a bone so that should really have been stated on there. When it says bread, it should be breast, not leg. The sauce on the chicken was just water with salt and pepper. Said there was chorizo but none in it. The steak was okay, cooked well but nothing to write home about. The burger was about 3 sizes too small for the bun. We also ordered onion rings but they never arrived. We would have flagged down someone to mention this but alas it seemed like we were the only ones in the restaurant as there were no serving staff in sight. Usually you get someone checking if food okay but not once did anyone even come into the area we were sat.We didn't bother with starters as there was nothing we liked on the menu and we definitely were staying for pudding as we had just gave up at that point, after 2 hours, we just decided to get pudding in tesco. Was probably better anyways.Overall, I wouldn't recommend. Unless you are okay hunting down someone to be served and don't mind mediocre pub food. I only gave 2 stars purely because the decor was nice and the steak was edible. Hi , thank you for taking the time to write this very detailed review. I have read your comments and I’m concerned about the service and food quality you experienced with us and I would like to apologise for this. We always strive to be great at the White Lion and both I and the Head Chef will be using your comments to improve our team in the future. My apologies once again and thank you.

I went in today with my daughter and her best friend, having been swimming. We just wanted a nice, simple lunch that didn't come with 15 different side options, drizzled in extraneous dressings, served on a coal scuttle or some other tosh. The food was excellent, the sandwiches well filled, and a lovely piece of coffee & walnut cake. My daughter was particularly taken with her hot chocolate. AND IT WAS ALL SERVED ON PROPER PLATES !!! The service is charming and friendly plus, being a pastry chef, I thoroughly enjoyed looking through the baking books they had on display. Clearly this place attracts many regulars as while we were eating our lunch there seemed to be several people that were well known to the owner. In a world full of tedious, hipster places trying too hard or identikit restaurants all with the same menu it's not easy to find a good, classic tea room. Thankyou very much and next time I hope to see more of the lovely garden that the deluge prevented us from enjoying.Fiona, Kitty & AnnabelThank you so much for your kind review. We're glad you enjoyed your visit and hopefully next time you can sit in the garden.

Another enjoyable visit to the Lemon Tree yesterday, despite the town being busy because of the Folk Festival. Avocado and Prawns followed by Salmon and Crab fishcakes, very good. (Previously had Shepherds Pie with Rosemary and Redcurrant and can recommend that too). Really pleased that previous poor experience proved to be a one-off.Many thanks for the great reviewI'm delighted everything was back to how it should be for you and hope to see you again before too long.Best wishesNick

Had a lovely family get together with a reserved table at the Vine Inn Tenterden. The whole premises has been recently refurbished to a high standard, together with a change of management. We were certainly not disappointed with the quality and range of the menu, with the restaurant area fully booked on the Friday night we went. Service was prompt, with pleasant well presented staff. We were there for 2 and half hours with lovely decor and clean surroundings. Sadly one major issue was the constant flow of pub customers walking through the restaurant area to get to the outside smoking area, which was a persistent distraction and quite annoying, particularly as the outside door was constantly being left open on a cold night. When we asked offenders nicely if they would go back and close the door, some reacted negatively. The tables nearest the door were getting quite annoyed by the situation as space for the pedestrians was limited and the smoke from the outside area drifting in. I highly recommend this pub, but would suggest if reserving a table you ask to be placed away from the pedestrian route. I think the management have done a great job but would suggest they seriously rethink smoking pub customers from going through the restaurant area.

Stopped by for some lunch on our way through Tenterden. Ate the chilli nachos off the specials menu, which was absolutely delicious - best chilli we've had in years, with a lovely and fresh home-made salsa. Staff were all lovely and welcoming and the chef even came out to see if we were enjoying the meal. Prices very reasonable for home made food. Would highly recommend and would definitely return. Thanks!!

Called in for a drink on a sunny afternoon. We sat outside (so that we could have our dog with us) and, although there were a few bees around, they were not that much of a problem. The service was quick and efficient and, although we were only having a drink, the serving staff were solicitous to an extrteme asking us if we were satisfied with our order. The cakes on display looked delicious and the food being served also looked very tasty and well-presented. Will be back to sample the food.
