Uninviting, grubby and pricey. Staff aloof and produce a little jaded. Did not feel valued cannot see me returning..

Following a not so good experience last year on Motherâs Day we decided to give The Craigie a try after news The Papermill has taken over. The head waiter was lovely. Very attentive and couldnât have been more helpful, however the food was disappointing. The menu is limited with no option of daily specials but we felt this may be a positive; quality over quantity. The starters were nice - Charcuterie board not as good as Papermill. Mains ok, again comparing like for like not the same quality. Desserts not great at all. We fed back our thoughts which were very gratefully received. Hopefully itâs a case of âwork in progressâ. All in all much better than before.

My wife and I came here for breakfast. Both of us ordered the traditional Scottish breakfast and we liked it. We enjoyed a nice and relaxing environment. The staff there are very friendly. The food is good. Overall, we have a great time. The added benefit is that there is a walking trail behind the restaurant. We spent some time walking the beautiful countryside and took a lot of pictures, especially with the highland cow!!Hi ALB215Thanks for leaving a great review of Swanston brasserie. It was good to read you had a positive experience and enjoyed the walk up the hills after.
I have visited the Gallery Cafe, as have family members regulalrly and we are always imrpessed by the value, choice, home bakes and good wholesome food. There is always home made soup on offer and an excellent choice of toasties. the home baking rages from scones to choccy stuff and gluten free choices are also available.

I guess the warning signs were there when we saw other customers wiping their feet on the way out as we arrived. I ordered some drinks from the bar. The flies buzzing about engaged me in more conversation than the surliest barman in Scotland. The menus initially promised plenty, but I canât tell you exactly how much as some of the pages were stuck together. In fairness, the starters werenât too bad, and thatâs the only reason Iâve given them a single star, but the main course was quite simply the worst meal Iâve ever had. I made the mistake of ordering the roast dinner - the lamb was like shoe leather, the broccoli was cold and yellow (?) and the Yorkshire pudding had the consistency, taste and texture of a skin graft. The other diners in our party didnât fare much better - the salmon had been poached to within an inch of itâs life and someone nearly lost a filling on their carrots. We passed on pudding, which was just as well because they tried to charge us for food we hadnât ordered, and, letâs be honest, probably wouldnât have wanted, given how the rest of the meal had panned out. Iâm trying to think of a plus... oh yes, I guess the car park was nice and large, which allowed us to get away quickly.

Just a stone's throw from Rosslyn Chapel we fund this to be an excellent lunch stop after our visit. We sat in the pleasant bar area but there's also a large outside area if it's sunny. Professional staff and a sensible bar menu (plus great coffee!).
