We were lucky to get into this popular restaurant at short notice. The welcome was warm and friendly, the atmosphere relaxed and staff attentive and efficient. The food quality was very high and portion sizes generous. The prices were also very reasonable. Definitely worth a try.

We were looking for a quick sandwich & followed the Services sign just off A30 nr Okehampton & saw it was a petrol station with a huge stand up Costa cup at the entrance We felt really disappointed but turned in prepared to turn round & come straight out again & found a large car park and sign for "Whitehouse Restaurant" We parked in a disabled space really close to entrance & to our amazement it was a lovely clean, friendly & efficient restaurant in lovely surroundings. had prawn sandwiches with crisps & salad garnish, my partner had steak pasty, we both had milk shake. It was all very good & my partner remarked several times that the steak pasty was even better than from a Cornish pasty shop we always head for on arrival in Hayle. This was the best steak pasty he had ever had! Plenty of meat in every bite & lovely pastry etc. we complemented them on the pasty & were told that they do in fact completely make the whole thing there.Amazing to find a completely independent restaurant just off the main Devon/Cornwall road and just signposted 'Services'. I'm sure they would get more well deserved custom if they were able to signpost that it isn't just the usual company services but independent. Meals included roasts & a good table menu to look at. We thoroughly recommend this place, no negatives at all, so glad we found it. Will certainly stop there again. In fact as we live in Devon we might even make a special trip. Thank you for breaking the mold of the usual expected Services.

We were on a long drive down to Penzance from Reading and had left early so after 3 hours of traveling we were ready to stop for breakfast. The garden centre is literally just seconds off the A30. We were made very welcome by all the staff. The restaurant was clean and tidy. One of us ordered the full cooked breakfast (£7.50). This was delicious, good quality produce, thick bacon, tasty sausage, good portion size. The other two of us ordered scrambled eggs on toast. There was a choice of one slice or two. Feeling greedy we both ordered two. Wow! The plates arrived promptly -two slices of chunky wholemeal toast and a mountain of the most delicious looking scrambled egg I have ever seen! The eggs were sooooo tasty, a very deep orange colour, obviously very fresh. It was such a plateful and so tasty. When our plates were cleared I mentioned to the lady how amazing it had been and asked her how many eggs each of us had had. She replied SIX! Six large eggs each! Felt extremely greedy after that! I would definitely recommend this coffee shop for breakfast! There was also the most amazing choice of fresh cakes, all looking very home-made. Obviously we simply did not have room for these unfortunately! We just may have to stop here on the journey back! So glad to hear you all enjoyed your breakfast. I hope you have a lovely holiday in Penzance and we do see you on the way back - however just to let you know we are not allowed to open on Easter Sunday - but we are open every other day. Jane

A lovely find - scones and cakes are homemade and really yummy; the room is very comfortable with nice seating, great tea cosies; and super clean toilets to boot. Overall it is a great setting run by a fantastic and chatty host!

Welcome to the Bearslake Inn, a traditional thatched pub with a renowned restaurant and quality accommodation in the stunning Dartmoor National Park. The Bearslake Inn and restaurant is situated in the hamlet of Lake in the North West corner of Dartmoor.
We have visited this restaurant before but enjoyed it so much we returned with some guest from Reading. The gentleman at the bar who looked after us was most accomodating without being in-your-face. He was so attentive to our request, we were very impressed. The food was smashing, my brother and i had the sausages and mash, very tasty, hot and nicely presented. My husband and sister-in-law had curry and enjoyed it thoroughly. We were full up but decided to have a sweet, I had sticky toffee pudding (yummy) my sister-in-law had creme brulee and my brother had crumble. No complaints. We will be returning to this restaurant as it has a lovely atmosphere and in our opinion it is value for money. It helped to make our relations holiday a bit special. Thank you

Woody & Carolyn welcome you to The Kings Arms, South Zeal, a traditional local pub which is over 500 years old. We are open all day, everyday, offering a fine resting place for locals & visitors alike. Our selection of real ales is accredited by the CAMRA
Good selection of beers.Staff did not ask how the food was. I believe this is because they already know the answer!I was very disappointed with the lack of salad in the burger. The microwaved bun could of been of more use as General Building Material in the construction of houses!Would definitely not eat here again, food did not appear to be prepared by someone who enjoyed there job!Very sorry to hear this, it is not what we would expect and not in keeping with our normal practice as our other reviews would suggest. As it is not clear when you visited we will speak to all our staff - we do ask that they check all customers once their food has been served - however if you had alerted them to the fact that you werenât happy they would have done their best to rectify the situation at the time. We will also speak to our kitchen staff to ensure we continue to meet the high standards that our customers expect from us. I am sorry to hear you wonât be visiting us again as I do believe this was a one-off, unusual situation, which we would have preferred to resolve at the time. Kind regards, Carolyn (Landlady)

We had a supurb meal here on Sunday night. Very impressed with quality of food and thought it was excellent value for money. Good honest delicious food - not posh (or trying to be) just great pub grub. Happily go back and try other stuff off the large menu.

Took my dad here yesterday lunchtime. Heâd been a number of times before, but my first. A nice welcome banter from the jovial barman/owner. We ate in the bar. Both had starters and main courses from a short menu which had something for everyone. All were fresh, tasty and good portions. The ham hock terrine and the scotch egg starters were particularly good. Cost was reasonable for the area. I would definitely recommend and would come again.Dear Peterj2010Thank you for your lovely review of The Oxenham Arms South ZealWe are so pleased that your Father and yourself enjoyed lunch. We have a completely different menu for evenings of course so hopefully one day you may come and try our evening menu either in the bar or restaurant. Thanks again !Lyn and Simon PowellThe Oxenham Arms South Zeal

We were a cycling group, about 30 people so we advance-booked almost the whole restaurant. They dealt with this large group very well and we all got our individual choices promptly. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food itself was very good and we were all served in reasonable timing. The location, in the centre of Okehampton is very good.
