I've been here on several occasions previously, though albeit not for a year or so. On a rare day off, I decided to treat my wife to lunch as we'd always enjoyed going there in the past (it's the other side of Wakefield to where we live, so a visit necessitates a 16-mile round trip). We arrived today to find the place not too busy, so were seated immediately by a pleasant young lady. The table we sat at initially was very tatty, and we were in a corner, so we moved to a more central position. As I approached the counter to order, a man walked back to his table and the young lady at the counter held out an outstretched palm towards me (which I consider rude in itself), saying "Just a minute. I'm still serving that gentleman". I let that go without comment and ordered our food. The lady became more civil from that point on, and, to her credit, checked with me about my needs when I asked for gluten free bread. Now, I probably wouldn't have mentioned the above, thinking that I was being a bit over-sensitive and out of touch, if the meals had been great (as they had always been on previous visits), but when they came, both looked pitifully small when it's noted that they cost approximately £10 each. Also, my plate was cold, so what food there was did not stay very warm. I like to be as fair and honest as possible in my reviews. If I have any issues, I always raise them with the staff at the time of my visit to give them the opportunity to address my concerns. In other words, I don't pretend that everything is fine, then vent my spleen on Trip Advisor. So, when a very nice waitress came to clear our table and asked if everything had been okay, we politely told her what we thought. i.e. That the portions served did not reflect value for money. She was very understanding and went to speak to the chef, returning shortly afterwards to inform us that the chef had stated that "the portions have always been the same size" (though a cursory glance around showed that other diners had much larger amounts on their plates, and my wife had had the same meal previously - open steak sandwich, and where before she had had it on a large teacake, now it was on a small slice of bread). The inference was that we were simply awkward customers. Well, chef, you may be right or you may not, but I wish I'd taken a photo now of my gluten free pastrami sandwich as evidence. So, I'm afraid the only people we were at all impressed with were the lady who originally seated us and the waitress who spoke to the chef. I really don't like putting less than positive reviews on this site, but the response of the powers-that-be at the Seed Room was very disappointing.

My daughter and new son-in-law recently had their wedding here and I have to say the whole day was an absolute delight. Hubby and I have dined here on numerous occasions and been highly delighted with every aspect of our visit. The wedding day was out of this world from start to finish. The staff at this venue really go out of their way to accommodate every requirement and give the happy couple (and the brides mum!!) memories to treasure. Special mentions must go to several members of staff. Matt the wedding co-ordinator who was one step ahead of us all day and sorted out problems before we were even aware of them! Andrew and Phil the chefs who produce the most amazing meals both for the main meal and the night reception.. The new addition of the pizza oven is awesome and the guests are still talking about how good they were and such a change from the usual hot/cold buffet or sandwiches. Every member of staff we came across provided the highest level of service from the ladies on reception, the breakfast waitress to the bar staff …. names too numerous to remember but thanks go to each and every one of you.I would have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful hotel as a wedding venue or as a dining experience for those special occasions

Visited tonight with the intention of eating here. We walked in to see a dog eating out of the same plates as humans sat on the bench eating at the table. We challenged this and the dog owners stated there’s a dog menu and the young boy behind the bar thought it was also OK because guess what! They wash the plates. Absolutely disgusting!! Needless to say we walked straight back out. If you’re going to offer a dog menu then serve it up in a proper dog bowl and don’t allow the animals to eat off the table. Dear Angela, Please be assured that, despite being dog friendly their are rules and guidelines and I will outline these for everyone's reference.Firstly, the night in question, the customers allowed their dog to eat with them, unbeknownst to us and against policy. We have separate special silver dog dishes that their food is brought out in and put on the floor. Dog water bowls and specially marked cups are also provided, again, on the floor.A vast majority of our customers enjoy bringing their dogs with them to the pub which is why we have such accommodations. The restaurant area is an area that dogs are not allowed in as we also appreciate and understand that not everyone is a dog lover.I do hope that this has clarified things for yourself and others. Should you wish to discuss in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact our venue directly.Best wishesLisa Newby
