The Great Western Arms provides me with supper, virtually every week. On Wednesdays, I drive 100 miles from my home near Banbury to be a guide on board the historic warship, HMS Warrior, at Portsmouth. On my return (same day and after tangling with the A34), I don't fancy cooking for myself (I'm a widower), so I always stop off at the GWA (it's seven minutes drive short of my home), and treat myself to the chef (Rene)'s cooking. It's always very good and plentiful (you'll never go hungry here (cooking 'minceur' it is emphatically NOT)). I would describe is as very good gastropub food - and the meat is always superb - a fillet steak is really something worth having: but yes, they do have two or three vegetarian options in each section of their menu.It stands right alongside Aynho Wharf on the Oxford Canal, so it is VERY convenient for anyone enjoying a trip or holiday in a boat/barge. It seems particularly popular with local families, and, on most evenings, booking is advisable.

We enjoy exploring new flavoursâ¦we have no recipes and we have no set menus. Our chef simply looks around to see what is looking great and sets to and creates plates of fabulous foodâ¦.we have no rules, no agenda but we have curiosity, fun and want to feed
What a gem in a beautiful garden centre. Very unexpected. The welcome is warm, the service fast and friendly and the environment unique. Would have preferred some warm food offerings (only the soup was warm) but everyone in our party enjoyed their food on a heady warm sunny day. Seating is at long tables, so you may have to sit close to people you donât know. Price was very reasonable and we all left promising to return. So enjoyable.Thank you so much for your helpful review - we are adding to the menu hoping to keep a good balance of hot and cold - so helpful to have your feedback.Very bestLiz

The Unicorn is a stunning 17th century country inn oozing with character that has an incredibly diverse offering. Not only does the Unicorn have a charming bar area and snug both complete with open fire places, it also has a FARM TO FORK STYLE restaurant,
Well positioned pub in Deddington, facing the market square. Good welcome, as warm afternoon wanted to sit in the back garden. A lot of litter, empty cigarette packets lying on the ground, ladders leaned against a wall. Shame really as could have so much cleaner. Pub roast was ok at £12.95 but good that local food.2 rooms at front of pub looked cosy for winter and quite popular although couldn't tell if local or visitors to the area like us.

We have visited this restaurant a few times before and been very impressed on all levels. This time we met friends for Sunday lunch. Wow, the food was absolutely delicious and well presented, nicest roast potatoes ever in a restaurant! Great service and good value. Will definitely return again.

I just donât know where to start! The poorest customer service I think I have ever experienced!!Seven of us visited the Deddington Arms for my dads birthday on Wednesday 7th August. On entering your Hotel my dads partner went to sit down and hit her leg on the sharp edge of the coffee table which surprisingly was on wheels! A young member of staff came over very quickly with a first aid kit and was very kind. Sadly she was dealing with a first aid kit that had very little in it and was having to use a green paper towel to control the blood. I think it might be worth spending some money on the contents of your First Aid kits!! At that point it was decided that a trip to A and E was needed. My brother in law took her as he had driven leaving my dad and his three daughters ( including me) in the pub. It was from this point on I am writing this email! Things just went from bad to worse!! At this stage we had not been offered a drink and my dads partner had not even been offered a glass of water during her ordeal! So we decided to order a bottle of wine and look at the menu whilst waiting for my dads partner to return. We asked about the set menu that was served between 6 ~7 and were told that if it went past that time before my dads partner arrived back it was unlikely we could choose it!!!! Under normal circumstances I could understand the time restrictions but this was special circumstances!! We sat there with our bottle of wine and not once did the manager come over and ask if we had heard anything back from the hospital or offer us a drink!!!! After all we were supposed to have been celebrating my dads birthday!!! Not even a bowl of nibbles!!! We were receiving regular updates ourselves from my brother in law who insisted we went on and ordered! After two hours we decided to call it a day and after receiving no customer care whatsoever decided we werenât going to spend any more money in a hotel where they havenât got a clue how to look after customers. In this case my dad and partner should have been seen as valued customers as they visit your hotel with another couple at least once a month for dinner. I think you will have seen the last of them now. My dad went up to pay for the bottle of wine we had had and the hotel took his money!!!!He asked for 10 % off with their hotel card but didnât even receive that as his partner had taken the card to the hospital!! I couldnât believe it!!! Not even a complimentary bottle of wine!!!!! I decided to go back in and speak to the manager Marcel Jenis. I spoke in a calm pleasant manner explaining that I by speaking to him now face to face I could avoid sending an email explaining how I felt! What a waste of time that was. All I did was point out that it would have been a kind gesture to have provided my 86 year old dad with a complimentary drink on his birthday whilst going through this ordeal. All Marcel kept saying was that the incident had been passed on to the M D who was dealing with it and very quickly passed me a scrap of paper with your details written on. This wasnât about the incident with the leg this is just about providing customer care!! Marcel certainly needs some training in this area! He was defensive, rude and arrogant for no reason!! My reason for writing this email is not about the incident that happened but about how you run your hotel. In conclusion I am going to bullet point all the issues that were noted that night and I expect an immediate response. It was my dads birthday.... We paid for the bottle of wine ... didnât even receive a complimentary drink in the circumstance. No water was offered to my dads partner during her ordealManager did not find out how Janet was doing at hospital at all! 10 % was not given off the wine as my dads partner had taken the dinning card with her to the hospital There should be a brake on the coffee table wheels First aid box needs first aid in it! Out of date products in the first aid boxIn such extreme circumstances the offer was not extended. In conclusion if we had received a slither of customer service I would not have been writing this message. This is a transcript of the email you sent to the General Manager and I know he has responded immediately and to your satisfaction. Needless to say we have apologised for the unacceptable service and as can be seen from the majority of our TripAdvisor reviews this was a very unusual experience.

Vast selection of home made pies with fillings to suit all tastes.Difficult to choose but in the end I plumped for the Turkey with Sage & Onion stuffing which didnât disappoint - would have fed two and served with delicious creamy mashed potato and a good selection of veg.Service was very quick and efficient.Only downside is that you canât book in the evenings. We were lucky we arrived just after 6pm and it was already quite full.Be prepared to wait for a table but do hang around you wonât regret it.

My wife queued to order food. When she got to the counter, the waitress snapped at her that it was table service. We then waited and waited for our order to be taken, but no one came. They were not busy but were just talking amongst themselves.
