Looking for a light lunch on our first visit to Dawlish and discovered this welcoming little spot. Not too large but not crowded by the few tables A Piece of Cake is furnished in light welcoming shades of green interspursed with some great images of snacks and cakes as a promise of what might be to come. It's all very informal and we took our seats and were given a few minutes to recover from the gale and check out the menu. The young lady acting as a waitress was efficent and welcoming and we soon ordered a cheese ploughmans' , a child's size tuna sandwich and tuna pannini. It was all fine and the cheese portions, brie, a good cheddar and Stilton, were generous. The coffee was okay (but I am very particular) and the jasmine tea came with hot water aside to top-up the pot.Next time we shall go early so as to have an excuse - if one were needed- for coffee and a selection of the cakes and pastries that were most obviously lovingly made in the minute kitchen at the back of the room.My parting comment, along with thanks, was that they should sell the cakes as a takeaway in boxes!Just one word of caution. The unisex toilet is large and clean but is up a full flight of stairs due to the position of the tea rooms within a block of accomodation. As one also has two doors and a small space to navigate when leaving the tea room area it is not easily accessable.Just under £25.00 for a light lunch and beverages; not bad value at all and worth a return visit.

Great little cafe restaurant in Dawlish town. A bit off the beaten track for the tourists who seem to be a few miles down the road in Dawlish Warren, but great for locals and tourists who want to get the bus, train or just drive to explore the area. The menu is a bit thinned out of late with their once legendary burger menu cut down to just three (beer, chicken and veggie) with a couple of optional toppings. I'm not a massive fan of their latest wine menu either which has been cheapened considerably from some of the fantastic wines they once sold. Get the burgers and wine back on form and you're a solid 5* all day long. PS, they do amazing homemade pizzas tooHello, Thankyou for choosing to dine with us at Jack Sprats, We made the decision to cut down the burger menu as not all of them were popular, we have left the optional toppings as these are the ones that were popular on the old menu. We also tweaked the wine menu as our suppliers stopped selling some of the wines that were on the old wine menu and we could no longer get hold of them, we have also had to keep our prices competitive, We hope to see you again soon ! Best regards,Jack Sprat team

Great quality coffee & food by the sea. Al Fresco dining. Really lovely nosh and drinks thrown in with brilliant value and authentic friendliness.
Lovely cafe with lots to offer. The chef works very hard and the sandwich presentation looked really good....but.....I wanted a toasted tea cake and always say, everywhere I go, âbutter separately pleaseâ. Most cafes do this anyway. This one didnât listen. I was presented with the flattest, dencist, untoasted butter laden tea cake ever! Stupidly I didnât complain but scooped it into my bag to throw away.Dear tearooms, please donât assume everyone likes masses of butter, and please toast your toasted tea Cakes!

The Restaurant at Orestone Manor is set in a lovely Georgian building with views over the gardens and sea beyond. We offer informative, efficient, friendly service in a relaxed atmosphere. We offer a Fine dining and Set price menu as well as Light bites, L
Always go by your recommendations so when I entered best Sunday lunch and Orestone Manor came up I booked I was advised the time shiw on there site was incorrect and we were booked in at 12.15 lunch time I stated I was allergic to Black peppers he went away to the Chef then came back to us saying all of there Sunday roasts were drenched in pepper all night and the roast potatoes I have never come across this before as they were advertising the roasts Beef, pork Chicken you would have thought that one of the three would have been supplied without adding pepperes I had to end up with fish for Sunday lunch not what I wanted I think they should advertise that they add these allergic items so people are aware Graham Thurston the fish was very good and the serviceWe are please you enjoyed the fish and service. Our website does clearly state our dinning times . However as with all restaurants time slots do get booked up. It sounds to me 12.15 was the only time slot we had available when you booked. I see from your booking that you booked through open table ( a third party booking agent). If you had phoned us directly we would have asked if you had any dietary requirements. We would have been more than happy to accommodate your pepper allergy had we known. Unfortunately the nature of a roast is the preparation beforehand hence the inflexibility. The Orestone Manor does always try to accommodate all allergies but it is best that we know upon booking. We do hope we can welcome you back to The Orestone but please phone us directly next time.
